I visited Longyearbyen for the Spitsbergen Marathon (1st June, 2019) and stayed for four nights at the Funken Lodge. I had a wonderful stay. This is a really lovely hotel, above the town with fantastic views of the Isfjorden. The room where you have breakfast - which is also the Funktionaermessen Restaurant - is wonderful, and the food and choices broad and good. The staff were just excellent. I am thinking of doing the marathon again next year just for an excuse to come back and stay here.

Had a super lovely stay at the Basecamp Hotel. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, lovely and cosy atmosphere at the hotel with great breakfast. It was quiet and located conveniently. Absolutely recommend staying there.

Hotel was fine for overnight. It's at the top end of the single shopping street in Longyearbyen, and much cheaper than the Radisson at the other end - though this is by Svalbard standards! Tea/coffee & biscuits available in reception, with kettle etc also in room. Breakfast was included, as a buffet in a nearby bar. Bar/restaurant opposite served a decent dinner. Staff very helpful in arranging an airport taxi (much more convenient than the bus, and hardly dearer for two passengers.) They would...

Nice facilities, very spacious room! Shower was really nice, also contained a washing machine and dishwasher (powder and tablets for both included). Super convenient as shops very nearby and easy for tour/activity pickups.

I had a wonderful and excellent stay here. A simple and rustic accommodation, an old minors hut, basic, but very comfortable, clean and warm.
Excellent and polite staff, always with smile and happy to help.
I will stay here again when I return.

First: bathrooms/showers, although individual, are shared. Rooms are small with separate beds. You have to leave your hut to get to reception/restaurant. It's at the top of a hill, a 30 minute walk from town. But it's perfect! You're in the middle of nowhere, 600 miles from the North Pole. It's tough (in Winter), so live without the usual luxury! Staff are wonderful and can arrange all activities, such as dog sledding, snowcat tours etc. The 30 minute walk into town is lovely or you can take a 5...
