Set in the Vale of Clwydin the northeastof Wales, Denbighis a historic market town lying amid beautiful scenery to the east of Snowdonia.Denbigh in Welsh is ‘Dinbych’, which means ‘littlefortress’, a fitting name for the town, which is dominated by a ruined hilltopcastle that looms above the bustling main square.

A web of pretty streetslined with shops, food haunts, inns and interesting historic buildings, Denbighis a great place to visit, with plenty to see and do. Apart from the townitself, a great mix of attractions awaits in the nearby countryside, from thepeaks of Snowdonia to the beaches of the NorthWales coast.

Sightseeing in Denbigh

History buffs will be intheir element in Denbigh. Dating back 1,000 years,the town is studded with ancient and medieval buildings. You can stroll aroundthe ruins and gateway of the 13th Century castle, and walk theremaining town walls, all amid wonderful views of the hills of the ClwydianRange.

Other must-sees includethe remnants of Leicester’s Church, an unfinished 16th Centurychurch, and the Burgess Gate, the main entrance to the town in medieval times. Andif you want to relive the past further, you can visit the Library and Museum, a16th Century building with absorbing displays charting Denbigh’soften turbulent history.

Denbighis great for retail therapy. Rather than the bland chain stores that dominatesome towns, the centre is peppered with unusual independent shops and otherretail gems selling everything from handcrafted Welsh products to vintage accessories,local arts, fashions and footwear.
