I flew to Corning, NY having business at the Corning Museum of Glass and also to reunite with my big brother after four years. I remembered Corning from my childhood days, as we would drive up from the Greater Philadelphia area to vacation at Watkins Glen and then go the Corning to see the glass museum.
It has been at least 40 years since since I made the trip.
What an idyllic community -- the nicest people I have ever met in the United States; generous of heart, welcoming, and enthusiastic about their town of 10,000. It was so wonderful to experience Corning even with the chill of late Fall. It's amazing how this little town can support such a thriving industry as Corning, Inc -- or maybe it's the other way around! At any rate, there are first-class restaurants wonderful shops, a world-class museum and research library (where I spent my time) and people who seem to be so generous at heart -- a rarity in today's world. I could honestly move there! The only downside is that the Elmira airport needs to upgrade transportation into Corning, less than 15 miles away, but you could fly back to Detroit roundtrip for the time it took to wait for a taxi or van service! The Hilton Garden Inn is literally a few steps from the Corning Museum of Glass -- don't try to experience it in just one day! Absolutely amazing!! As was the service, the people and the whole town. I didn't even watch the news!
