The famous crooked spire at Chesterfield. The spire caught fire, unseasoned wood was used after the fire to reconstruct along with 32 tons of lead, as the wood dried out the weight of the lead twisted the spire.
I lived just a few miles from here until I was 20, and never actually took any notice of this lovely spire. It was built from wood, which has warped over the years giving it its lovely "crooked" appearance.

Pretty hotel. We had a wonderful stay in room 121. The suite had a beautiful 4 poster and the bathroom a huge roll top bath. We visited the spa and had an excellent breakfast. Lovely stay. Will return.
