We've got the lowdown on how to make your journey a stress-free experience. Follow our tips and you'll be cruising through the airport and exploring Snug Corner in no time. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• The secret to having a hassle-free travel experience is to pack ahead. Start with the essentials: passport, travel documents, cash and important medications. Next, take on board items that'll help pass the time, like your laptop or a few magazines. It's also a wise idea to pack your chargers, a neck pillow and a pair of earphones. And of course, don't forget to squeeze in toiletries like a toothbrush, facial wipes and a spare set of clothes.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Check carefully that you don't have a pocket knife lurking in one of the compartments of your hand luggage. Other banned items include flammable or explosive products, such as bleach and fuel, and gels and liquids in containers larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres).

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your main concern when choosing what to wear on your flight. Loose clothing is a wise choice, as are enclosed shoes like sneakers.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by extended periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Walk around the cabin and give your legs a stretch or do some gentle exercises in your seat to improve your circulation.

Being prepared before you get to the airport will make your getaway to Snug Corner a pleasure. Below you'll find some useful tips and tricks for a stress-free journey through security:

• First things first. Your boarding pass and travel ID will need to be shown to airport security personnel. Keep them handy so you don't have to dig around for them.
• Time to strip down. Well kind of. Your belt, coat, keys and other contents of your pockets, like your headphones, will be required to go through the X-ray machine. Make your life easier by removing them before your turn arrives.
• All your electronic devices, including your phone and tablet, will also need to be scanned.
• Want to bring along your favourite perfume? No problem. As long as the volume is no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and it's stored in a zip-lock bag, you can keep it with you in your carry-on.
• Slip-on shoes are a clever footwear choice as you're less likely to have to remove them when passing through security. Hiking boots and heavier-style shoes are usually subjected to additional screening.
• Airlines won't allow any sharp or pointed objects in your carry-on baggage. If you must bring these kinds of items, pack them safely in your checked luggage.
