Wherever you're coming from, flying can be a seamless experience if you're prepared. Take a peek at these handy tips and tricks that will help get your Mytikas escape started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• The trick to having a pain-free travel experience is to be prepared. Start with the essentials: passport, official ID, cash and any vital medications. Next, take on board items that'll help keep you occupied, like your laptop or a good book. It's also wise to bring your chargers, a quality neck pillow and a pair of headphones. Finally, be sure to squeeze in toiletries like a toothbrush, deodorant and a fresh change of clothes.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Pack all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hair gel in your checked luggage. Any gels or liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) will be confiscated. Sharp or pointed objects, like your treasured Swiss Army knife, and products which are explosive or flammable, such as aerosol cans, flares and strong acids, are also not allowed.

What to wear on a flight:

• Choose comfort over style. Prepare for temperature changes in the cabin by dressing in layers, and opt for slightly roomy, flat shoes like slip-ons.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a risk on long-distance flights. It's the result of blood clots forming due to poor circulation, so do some gentle foot and leg exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression socks or tights.

The trick is to be well prepared before you get to security. That way, you'll be hopping onto that plane to Mytikas before you know it. Follow these tips and get your holiday off to a terrific start:

• Your ID and travel documents will need to be shown to security personnel. Keep them at hand so you don't have to dig around for them.
• Next up, both you and your carry-on luggage must be X-rayed. To make the process quick and painless, take off anything that is likely to trigger the alarm. Items such as your jacket, belt and headphones need to go through the machine.
• All electronic devices, including your phone and laptop, will also need to be separately scanned.
• Remember to remove gels and liquids from your hand luggage. They often need to be sent through the X-ray machine separately. Each product should be in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and everything must fit inside a single quart-size (one litre), clear zip-close bag.
• Slip-on shoes are a practical footwear choice as you're less likely to be required to remove them when passing through security. Big boots and other bulky shoes are usually subjected to extra screening.
• Sharp items such as knives and scissors are not allowed on board. They'll be confiscated at security, so pack them safely away in your checked bags.
