What to pack in your hand luggage:

• It's simple — first, pack in your passport, travel docs, bank cards and medications. Next, you'll want some extra in-flight entertainment to help pass the time. A thrilling novel and a tablet filled with your favourite shows are some great options. If you plan to catch a few z's, a comfy neck pillow and some earplugs will also be useful. Finally, make room for a toothbrush and some cleansing wipes to ensure you touchdown feeling fresh and raring to go.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Make sure you don't have a Swiss Army knife lurking in your carry-on luggage. Other banned items include flammable or explosive goods, such as fuel and fireworks, and gels and liquids in containers with a capacity of more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).

What to wear on a flight:

• The goal here is to be as comfortable as possible. Don layers of breathable clothing and remember to bring a cardigan in case it gets chilly in the cabin. Opt for a pair of roomy, flat shoes as it's possible that your feet and ankles will swell a little during the journey. Leave the stilettos and heavy hiking boots in your main luggage.
• The serious condition by the name of DVT (deep vein thrombosis) can pose a risk on long-haul flights. It's the result of blood clots forming due to poor circulation. Walking around the cabin and doing regular leg and foot exercises in your seat helps to prevent this occurring. Wearing a pair of compression tights or socks is also a wise idea.

As savvy travellers know, the secret is to be prepared before you arrive at security. That way, you'll be stepping onto that plane to Mikołów in next to no time. Follow these helpful tips and get your trip off to a flying start:

• Keep your ID and boarding pass easily accessible. They're the first items you'll be asked to present to security.
• Your jacket, belt, keys and other contents of your pockets, like your earphones, will need to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process easier by removing them before your turn.
• For just a few minutes, you'll have to unplug from the digital world. Your phone, laptop and any other electronics must also go through the scanner.
• Can't travel without your favourite cologne? Not a problem. As long as it's in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and it's stored in a zip-lock bag, you can bring it with you in your carry-on bag.
• Lightweight sneakers are a sensible footwear choice as you're less likely to be required to remove them when passing through security. Big boots and other heavy-style shoes are often subjected to additional screening.
• Take all prohibited items out of your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp or pointed objects, put them in your checked suitcase. They won't be allowed on board.
