We love this place and the owner Jenn! We are coming back, hopefully soon! We had fun in the tavern down stairs and slept like babies all weekend in our room. This place is one of a kind! We’ve stayed at dozens of places throughout the Adirondacks and this one is by far, our favorite!
What a great stay. My travel was disrupted, and Jenny was kind, understanding, and communicative. The Inn is cute and authentic. The location is stunning. I only regret being able to stay just one night (cancelled flight), it was a warm and I felt welcomed.
Amazing location to see the Fall foliage and do many outdoors activities! Cozy, clean and comfy room, with streaming TV for downtime. I even had the adjustable memory foam bed in my cabin like little room. Jennifer was a wonderful host and called me on my drive in to check in with me. Thank you!
The hospitality of the staff especially Ginny the owner of this fine establishment was very helpful and were great to chat with regarding the region of the Adirondacks. Let me not forget to mention the rooms are cozy, impeccable and lovely decorated by Ginny who is true artist. I do plan on visiting this area of the Adirondacks again and the Balsams will be base camp when exploring this beautiful area.
All aspects of my stay was excellent. accomodations were excellent and the host Jenny was superb. She was alocal who has built her busirss reputationon hard work and her guests enjoying a good tay. She is a PRO!!!!!
Incredible place to stay. It is an older building, that is what makes it so unique. Each and every room is a little different. We were welcomed and made to feel truly at home. Great food and ambiance. I will definitely recommend to our friends and family if the are traveling

The Country charm of the Balsam Inn is invigorating. The grounds around the inn are delectable. Jenn is a top notch host and all around wonderful person. Prepare to relax, enjoy nature at its fullest, and be transported to absolute paradise. Squishy beds too.
Will definitely start again. Everyone was very friendly, welcome and accommodating. Parking is easy, the rooms and bathrooms are clean and cozy, we had excellent drinks and pie downstairs in the bar/restaurant, and free breakfast (milk juice, coffee, muffins, breakfast bars, fruit and cereal) in the morning.

Rustic meets adorable! So warm and comfortable. The beds (we had twins) were to die for. Great.having the bar below. Nice selection of beverages, great continental breakfast. Jenny and staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Shared bath not a problem. Wonderful place!
I didn't know what to expect, and upon arrival it looked just like an old bar. But inside it had the warm feel of an old-country tavern and inn—which it was. The proprietor is personable, attentive, and concerned about your needs. For being a tavern, it is surprisingly quiet. The bed was very comfortable, and they serve hearty food. A very relaxed, informal feel with good wifi (which is important as your cell signal may not reach this remote spot). If you're looking for a bargain, this is with the (gorgeous) drive up NY Hwy 10.

It was definitely different. You have to share a bathroom with other inn guests. We were the only ones who were at the Inn for our 1 night. So it wasn't an issue but guess I got to read the fine print better. And there was no A/C. You could open the window, but there was no screen to let the cool air in. So we just opened the window & gambled that we wouldn't let in the bugs along with the cooler air. It wasn't that hot of a day, but I can only imagine that place on a typical warm summer day/evening. On the positive, the host was nice, the wifi worked and, outside of the A/C, the room was nice. Given the stellar reviews and the price we paid (it was over $150 for a Monday night), I guess I was expecting something a bit nicer.
The Balsam is located in a scenic spot in the southern Adirondacks where, due to the remoteness and the topography, there is no cell service but there is WiFi at the lodge.
The night we stayed, we were the only guests which concerned me because, with Jenny being so engaging and friendly, I really want this venture to be a success for her.
We arrived during a grey afternoon when the sporadic rain caused mist to shroud the evergreens of the forest where the inn sits and, during the evening, my partner and I lay on the soft mattress of our room and listened to the rain falling on the roof, the hypnotic sound of which lulled us into a deep slumber.
By morning, the rain had moved east but we decided against biking the nearby trails because, being senior citizens, the risk of falling in the remote mountains was all too real and daunting but we appreciated that the opportunity was offered to us.
Jenny had set out breakfast for us which included a selection of natural cereals, fruit, English muffins and really decent coffee.
We circled the breakfast area, admiring Jenny’s photographs - she is an artist with the rare talent of capturing landscapes in an idolized fashion such that it brings the viewer into the narrative with a bit of awe and, perhaps, a longing for the tranquility engendered by the rounded hillocks and the placid waters. She has a gift.
The hosts were both pleasant and welcoming. We were met with an explanation and a quick tour of the Inn. Jenny provided recommendations for a local restaurant nearby, and it was great.
