My husband and I came here to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. I felt like I was in a vintage fairy forrest. We loved it. Everything on the grounds was gorgeous. So much greenery everywhere. Well maintained plants and trees. So pleasant. Our room was cute. The mattress was old and gave me the worst back ache, it sunk in. The bathroom was huge and super roomy. I loved the option to open the old fashioned windows and see the garden from our room. The shower was kind of icky because the drain had green rust all over it. Other areas of the shower were a little icky, but overall the room was great. We got breakfast daily and the people who worked there were magnificent. The cleaning ataff always did a great job. We would definitely go back.

For being a 130 year old home, this property is very well kept. As Clean as you can expect for the age. Water pressure is great and hot water lasts forever! Obviously a bit dated, but that’s part of the charm. It is 130 years old after all. The bed in sunny gables room was incredibly comfortable

The Monarch Cove Inn may have been the spot in it's hey day but, in 2024 it is extremely tired. Maybe it was the covid years that took it's toll on this retreat but, it is in need of a lot of repairs. The best thing I can say that was very good was the breakfast that was delivered to the room this was really good. Over all I was disappointed.

This facility was built in 1895…has enormous character and history…only 6 rooms…in a beautiful residential area…quiet, on a cliff overlooking Monterey bay (no beach access)…rooms are so charming…we had a little patio and a good sized small frig…the coffee maker made terrible coffee…you do get a continental breakfast, but it’s delivered to your room…toasted bagels, pastries from the local bakery, carafe of coffee…juice, fresh cut fruit…real plates & silverware…just raises the bar a bit. Please note that there is no central heat/ac…there are small heaters in the room which made things cozy for us.

Beautiful location and excellent breakfast, but... When we arrived, the staff had departed for the day and our key was left for us in the mailbox at the office. Inside the room, we found the area to be clean, but very dated and needing upgrades. We had no idea how to turn on the heat (freestanding fireplace) since there were no instructions in the room or posted on the fireplace. When we finally opened the door to the controls, none of the controls were marked. The following morning, we walked the property and noticed the property was not well maintained and in need of repairs, mowing, pruning, etc. Having said this, the setting overlooking Monterey Bay is stunning. The breakfast was delivered on time and was excellent. Given our observations, I doubt we would return to this property, but the property has so much potential with some TLC. We understand this is a historic property with a great story, but the property needs to be maintained better.

The bed and pillows were great. Slept so nicely. The heater blew hot and nice. Water pressure strong and hot. Room was very clean. Staff was friendly. Walking around the property you see a beautiful ocean view. Felt great relaxing and listening to the ocean from our room.

Easy check-in, lady was very pleasant. The grounds are very appealing and the room was quaint and cozy. Easy access to everything, if you plan at least a month in advance, you can eat at Shadowbrook restaurant. They can pick you up in a 50's taxi. I just would like to see the rug steam cleaned, kinda stinky, not a big deal though.

Romantic Get Away
We always stay at Monarch Cove because it is so beautiful and quiet! It is close enough to town to walk there and eat, shop, and stroll and far enough away to be so quiet with only the sound of the ocean and birds! The rooms are spacious and very comfortable! The grounds are beautiful!

Super cute old bed and breakfast. Felt like going back in time, beautiful grounds. Only complaint is that it did not specify electric heater designed to look like a fire place vs actual fire place. That was a little disappointing. Other than that was a very nice place to go!

We had such a lovely time at Monarch Cove inn! The staff took great care of us! The only thing that we wished, was that if there had been a fire pit.

I loved the place as it was comfortable and clean. The staff were great. The comp breakfast was tasty! The only thing that was a drag was that the people below us had a dog that would not stop barking. I do not know if the owner/manager lives on site, but I think they must have heard it too. The place is very quiet so hard not to believe that they could not hear it. Nothing was done about the barking. Bummer to have that ruin a nice quiet evening. We left for a while just to get away from it. And, I did not confront (as I used to do) to get them to keep the dog quiet because these days people are so quick to violence over the stupidest things.

Great location. Has lots of potential Stayed in Carriage House. Lots of room but very dated. Old carpet, woodwork was dirty and not recently painted. Heating system either to hot or off and very cold. Drains in bathroom and kitchen don’t drain well. I really love the old character it really needs a refresh.

This quiet oasis overlooking the bay secluded from traffic and beautifully landscaped areas for enjoying the peace was a treat. I highly recommend this B & B for a retreat to soothe the soul and take in the refreshing and reflection.

This is a beautiful setting with sweeping views…Monarch butterflies were hatching swarming the bushes/ivy. We watched whales, dolphins and pelicans from the grassy area in front of our room. Very friendly staff.

I have loved this place for 30 years and have stayed in most of the rooms and/or cottages (though some are no longer a part of Monarch Cover). It's serene, in a beautiful, walkable neighborhood, with sea views and a lovely breakfast.
