Branson's Scenic Railway

Branson's Scenic Railway
Travel back to the beginning of the 20th century on a guided tour in a restored train carriage passing the Ozark foothills.

When visiting the Ozarks, be sure to add a trip on the Branson Scenic Railway to your itinerary. This old-world train makes a 40-mile (64-kilometer) round-trip around the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. You’ll travel through tunnels and over bridges as you survey the stunning scenery in the region. Hop aboard for a picturesque trip in Missouri you won’t soon forget.

As you arrive at the historic depot, which dates back to 1905, appreciate the charming design and traditional ambiance. Watch the train come into view, its great red front conjuring up images of times past. On the side of the locomotive, notice the words “Branson Scenic Railway” in white. Its cars are restored from as early as the 1930s.

Step inside and prepare for a trip through the Missouri countryside. Stare out the window at the green hills and century-old bridges that make up the scenery for this historic voyage.

Passengers may change seats throughout the expedition, getting a variety of vistas and experiences of different sections in this retro locomotive. Chat with the on-board guide to find out about the ecology of the region. These knowledgeable experts will point out wildlife and historic landmarks along the route.

Make a reservation to enjoy a four-course meal on the Dinner Train, which operates from April through October on Saturdays. In winter, try the Polar Express voyage, with all passengers given hot chocolate and cookies. Purchase souvenirs to remember your trip, choosing from ceramic mugs, clothing and other gifts.

Secure your spot on the train by purchasing tickets online. Check the schedule for the train, which generally departs for tours a few times per day. Each round-trip takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Choose between regular coach seats and dome levels. Ask for discounts on tickets for kids age 12 or under.

The Branson Scenic Railway starts from the Branson Depot on the western side of Lake Taneycomo. It is part of the Downtown Branson district. While you’re in this part of the city, visit some of the neighboring attractions, from Liberty Plaza and the Branson Convention Center to waterfront activities along the lake.
