"Only thing we don't not enjoy about the hotel, was the breakfast and the knife was very blunt would not cut butter with them. Other than that, nice hotel"
"After a long day of emptying a property, we were looking forward to getting to our room and winding down for the night. Upon arrival into the room, it was like an oven opening up the door. It was 30-degree heat outside, and not one window had been left open to help ventilate or keep the room cool. We had to open our main door to try and let some air enter the room as it was absolutely unbearable to stay in there. Then it was time for a shower. We were sweaty and grubby, and I just wanted a nice lukewarm shower. Upon looking into the bath, I noticed the plughole was absolutely chocker blocked with thick black hair and then strands of it scattered around the bath and also on the bathroom floor. I let it go that night as I was absolutely shattered and needed to cool down, which comes to my next issue, the shower! There was no lukewarm setting it was either boiling hot or freezing cold! Then the pressure was so slow that it would have been quicker filling up the bath and just having a quick soak! Another issue that we had was when we went to the bar we were completely ignored by a staff member for whatever reason I am not sure but we were next to be served and got ignored whilst another person who had arrived after us was served first. Overall, this will be my first and only stay at this hotel, and I will NOT stay here again after my experience!"
"This place is great for a break from modern city life, the property has character, it is idyllic and detoxifying, pleasant, clean and tidy
My kids really enjoyed the stay
Oh not mention, plenty of free parking"
"Absolutely appalling experience at the Caledonian Hotel, Isle of Wight. We arrived at 2:50 PM and were still made to wait until 3:05 PM because of their ridiculous “3 PM means 3 PM” policy. When we politely asked if we could check in just 10 minutes early, the receptionist responded rudely and dismissively: “I have told you 3 PM means 3 PM.” There was no courtesy, no flexibility, and certainly no customer service — despite the hotel clearly having plenty of rooms available.
To make matters worse, we requested a table fan on arrival and were told it would be sent to the room within 10 minutes. That never happened. After repeatedly waiting and following up, we only got the fan late in the evening — and even then, we had to go and collect it ourselves from reception.
The staff attitude was cold, rude, and completely unhelpful. Hospitality clearly means nothing here. A hotel stay should feel welcoming, not like you’re inconveniencing the staff by simply asking for basic service. Very disappointing experience and definitely not somewhere I would recommend."
"Regarding breakfast - being vegetarian the options were very limited and portion size was also small. After asking for more it was told they it's fixed food size and extra means extra price. I think breakfast option should be more appropriate and it's handling should be done more appropriate like other hotels as it is not good to restrict the person for eating when they are paying so much for the stay."
"It was great value for our one night stay. If you’re looking for a location near the beach, train station and the bus stop to Ryde or Ventnor then it’s great. The rooms were small but the bed was comfy and we had tea and coffee provided in the room as well. Check-in and check out were really straightforward and everyone very friendly. Many thanks."
"Fantastic stay! We travelled from Birmingham with a baby under 2 and the host was absolutely brilliant — greeted us personally and kindly allowed an early check-in which made such a difference with a little one.
The apartment is spotless, well equipped and perfectly located — just a short walk from Sandown Beach. Will definitely be back! Highly recommended! "
