Stay away if allergic to cats
My three friends and I stayed in Hostel Casaltura's bunkbed room for four, which was nice and clean. We enjoyed our room immensely, however, the room could have used another power outlet. When we arrived at the hostel, we were buzzed in and showed to our room. There is a very big and wind-y staircase, which can be a hike to walk up. It would have been nice if the staff would have been more friendly and offered to carry our bags after a very long 15+ hour journey. The staff was rather cold and unwelcoming. These minor inconveniences were incomparable, though, to the prevalence of cats and cat hair throughout the property. The sofas, tables, and floors were not clean and filled with cat hair. What's more, we saw the cats not only lick all the ceramic mugs, but also lick the spouts of the watercooler. Unbeknownst to us we drank contaminated cat water! As someone who is incredibly allergic to cats, I had no idea the property had cats or that I'd be ill the entirety of my stay. Management needs to be up front with guests about pets before guests book.

the location is convenient. walkable distance to plaza de armas and the other museums. be careful at night time. there are even two cats around to make you feel home. very cozy commom room and dining place. kitchen is spacious.

Casaltura
The hostel is in a great location for walkking to many of Santiago’s sights. However, being in the centre of town there are a lot of hard accelerating busses passing from the early morning and the windows don’t block out the noise. I did have a room right over the street though, one off it may have been less noisy. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fine and there’s comfy communal areas. One thing to consider is you have to carry your luggage up several flights of creaky stairs to get to reception. For a base to explore the city for a few nights though, I would recommend it.

I loved Casaltura! I arrived late at night, and Francisco could not have been nicer. He helped me check in, gave me ideas for what to do while I was in Santiago, and was very patient with my attempts at Spanish. I was traveling solo and ended up having the 6-bed dorm all to myself for all three nights; it was great to go exploring all day then come "home" to peace and quiet. The building itself is gorgeous, and very centrally located, just blocks away from metro stops and from the Plaza de Armas where many tours begin. The breakfast was great, and I didn't even have a chance to use the awesome rooftop terrace / garden, but it looked amazing. Casaltura was one of my favorite parts of my time in Santiago!

Decent accomodation in a great location
Room was decent. Big bed, small bathroom. Location was great in the middle of the city. Initially hot water wasn't working well. Had a bit of a struggle to get the inexperienced guy on reception to get it fixed. But eventually he did the right thing and it got resolved. No other issues, would stay there again.

Comfortable stay in a building full of character
Casaltura was a great place to stay in Santiago for friends, couples and families of all ages. The building had plenty of character, the roof terrace is a great suntrap and had plenty of seating, there is also a lounge as well as sofas in the reception. The staff were helpful with the reception open 24/7. The included breakfast was a simple but plentiful buffet, a sandwich maker made great cheese toasties! The room and building as a whole was also kept clean and the building felt safe. It's well positioned and we were able to walk everywhere we wanted, the metro station was just a few blocks away and a large supermarket was also close by. There are a few potential downsides to be aware of; the reception is about three floors up with no lift, so watch out if you have a heavy case. The WiFi worked well around the reception, but didn't stretch to the room or the roof. Some of the rooms can also be a little noisy as they face a main road, but then the central location makes up for it. Overall we were really pleased with our stay.

Good location, not great hostel
Rooftop terrace is lovely and hostel is close to many tourist sites. Hostel has mostly non-existent wifi and a very basic breakfast. Single room was incredibly hot and stuffy; fan provided barely worked. Washrooms dumpy and not particularly clean. Do not stay here if you have a lot of luggage or are not physically fit, as it is up several flights of stairs. Overall, the hostel photographs much better than it looks in person. Not great value for what it was.

Good location, very basic hostel
We had a private room, which is in the building next to the main one. The room was nice and clean, but hot as the only window was in the bathroom. The walls are also very thin, and the wifi wasn't working most of the time. The breakfast is basic, but enough to get you going for the day. Location is great for visiting the city.

La casa donde esta nuestro hostel es en su mayoría construida en base al adobe, que es un material muy liviano y fue muy utilizado en las construcciones del siglo XIX, nosotros nos esforzamos por mantener la originalidad de la casa, por que es precisamente su antigüedad la que le da valor. Por esto mantenemos el piso de madera original, los muros de adobe y en general la infraestructura. Por eso alguna habitaciones son más ruidosas o más calurosas que otras. Muchas gracias por tus criticas, valoramos la oportunidad que nos das de mejorar con tus observaciones!

Nice for backpackers, not anymore
Of course a hostel is most of times good for backpacker, I am not and I was searching something to stay few days. It is uncomfortable if you have suitcases. Also, I had a room that was extremely noisy because it faced to the avenue.

Por estar ubicados en el centro histórico de Santiago estamos expuestos a diferentes inconvenientes como por ejemplo el ruido del transito, que ya ha sido solucionado al instalar ventanas de doble panel para minimizar el ruido. También en este sector del centro existen ratones y los gatos que tenemos en el hostal son necesarios para mantenernos libres de ese problema, por eso son necesarios. Agradecemos tus criticas por que nos ayudas a mejorar!

Everything ok.
When booking by expedia, shortly after I received a confirmation email. I asked some questions and was promptly answered. Warned the schedule would come about and the person was ready to receive me and explained to me all hotel procedures. Whenever I needed help, I helped them with much effort to understand me.

very well located. Nice decor. Desk was not helpful in locating an over nightparking, but we eventslly found one under the public park. Albeit well located ( few blocs from Plaza de Armas) very noisy due to all night traffic. Recommanded.

good budget accomodation
I stayed in a single room with shared bathroom. The room was small and very basic but i had everything i needed for a good price. The shower was hot, there was good breakfast, internet, helpful staff and a good location. There was a supermarket close by, and not too far to walk to all of the tourist attractions/areas. Very good for students/backpackers.

Well Priced Hostel In the Heart of Santiago
We arrived at the hostel at approximately 2 am. There was no trouble with arriving at that time, the front desk staff were very kind, and showed us around quickly and then to our room. In the morning breakfast was good, but nothing too exciting. Everyone got a yogurt, and then there was a variety of bread goods, cheese, basic fruits and juices. There were a few people (4 men with big appetites) who consistently cleared it out, and the girl was having trouble keeping up with them. Instant coffee - which is not uncommon. The front desk staff was so helpful with giving us advice on how to get a bus ticket, and how to get to the bus station. We checked out at 10 am, but then had an overnight bus to Pucon. We basically spent the entire afternoon hanging around the hostel, which has amazing shared spaces including an excellent terrace with great views. They were more than welcoming. The internet quality is good. There is a cute cat. The bedroom was clean and super cute. The shared bathroom was clean, and adequate. We didn't have any problems at this hostel, and the value was very good for what you got and also the location.

Home away from home
Location is good. The hostel is clean. Common area is cosy. Kitchen facilities are the plus and it is cleaned daily. I made my first home cooked food after a month of travel. Fond menory !

4-5 stars but not a 5-Star hotel
I am rating this for what it is-- a budget hotel. I'll break down some of the things I noticed but it is a good choice for a low cost place to stay. Cons: 1. Somewhat noisy-- take ear plugs; 2. Unlike other reviews I did not find employees particularly fluent in English; 3. Bring toilet paper and soap (not that unusual down there); 4. Lots of stairs; 5. Some of the young people grab the breakfast food with their possibly dirty hands (see 3). 6. Some nights (I was there 4 nights) the young people get very drunk and disorderly on the roof deck, but this is really their place so I just enjoyed their exuberance. Pros: A. Great location; B. Clean enough; C. Friendly staff; D. Breakfast was decent enough; Lots of Stairs (great exercise but not for everyone. E. Rooftop deck is a great place to relax and F. Wifi in the public areas (and some rooms but not either of mine).

All in all, the hostel is nice and well located, but there are not enough bathrooms (most are private bathrooms, but outside the rooms and always locked) for dorm guests, while guests in private rooms need to leave their room anyways to get to their bathroom... Consider paying for a private bath when you actually need to wander the corridors!

This Hostel is nice and central, with plenty of well-known tourist locations and the metro within walking distance. Overall the staff were friendly and helpful which made our stay easier. Unfortunately the low point of our stay was the room, which although it was clean it was quite basic and worst of all was like an oven, even with the windows open and fan on full. Overall the hostel seemed a good place, and maybe we got one of the inferior rooms, but based on the quality of the room we felt as though it was overpriced.

The High House
Cheerful staff. No difficulty conversing in English. Fair walking distance from either Bellas Artes or Puentes Cal y Canto Metro stations. Very close to the REAL Santiago Markets a feast for the senses (but not the squeamish). Nice park just outside and East permitting long morning walks. In winter expect cold bathroom. Heater available for dorm if asked for. Overall, like most things in life, it 's all about the people, and they were great and helpful, as were the guests from the world over. Other hostels don't tell you that wifi is only in one common noisy room, this one had wifi available everywhere.

Casaltura Hostel Boutique cambió su administración a fines del año 2014 tomándola a cargo Valentina Larraín, Socia directora, tataranieta de la familia original, dueña de la propiedad, quien le ha dado un gran impulso y renovación, trabajando desde esa fecha en forma intensa para mejorar la atención y satisfacción de nuestros pasajeros. Los adelantos más destacados de este período son: -Instalación de ventanas dobles con termo panel acústico en las 15 principales habitaciones, en proceso de instalar en solo cuatro habitaciones faltantes. -Reforzamiento del personal de aseo permanente, manteniendo la sanitización y limpieza permanente de habitaciones, espacios comunes y baños. -Recepcionistas bilingües capacitados en la atención al huésped. .-Muebles originales de la casa, restaurados, en recepción y habitaciones. Ambientación de la terraza del Hostal con mobiliario nuevo y plantas. -Pintura general de la casa. -Servicio de lavandería propio. Mes a mes vamos incorporando nuevos adelantos y superando nuestro servicio.

It was average, but clean and tidy enough. The toilet and bathroom area was terribly small and not clean enough.

Great location- good hostal
Great location and price. Some staff better than others. I have stayed here on three different occasions and summarise 3 different room booked. 1) with ensuite bathroom - the best option though location at front meant it was noisy. 2) Room at back with share bathroom, bathroom left dirty by previous occupant but quieter and cooler 3) room at front next to reception. Noise from the road and reception meant very little sleep. Notice all rooms now have rules up on wall making this very much a hostal. Good kitchen, breakfast okay but dreadful coffee - bring your own. Great roof terrace, wifi and computers and books for general use.
