After I checked in and went to my room, I tried to connect my work laptop to the wifi, but was unable. I went to the front desk and pointed this out, and I was told that the wifi was out. This information was not told to me during check-in, and I feel it should have been disclosed at that time. I told the worker that I booked this location because it advertised free wifi, and I needed it because I was on a business trip. I was offered a refund, but because I booked through Expedia, the worker told me that Expedia needed to initiate the request for a refund by emailing customer service department for La Quinta. After several attempts by Expedia, and 5 days later, La Quinta finally replied to Expedia and denied the request for a refund. La Quinta stood by their policy of no refunds. However, in this case, I feel that I had a very valid reason to request a refund, since they did not have wifi as advertised.
With respect to the condition of the room, there was a very stale odor as I walked in. Looking down at the floor, I was able to see small pieces of crumbs and other fine particle debris, a clear indication that the floors were not swept or mopped. The bathroom counter has dried up "something" on the surface, a clear indication that it was not scrubbed or wiped down. The flat part of the base of the toilet where the bolts are located was covered in dried liquid, probably a combination of water and urine, and also had dust and/or dirt particles stuck to the dried liquid.
