Newly redone bath with excellent water pressure, very large suite, some furnishings need updating/small repairs, but on the whole an excellent value,; free coffee/tea in the libby was appreciated; restaurant & bar currently closed, but plenty of great options nearby; will return

The hotel is in terrible shape. Our room had torn curtains and there is mold in the window panes. The steps to the room had dry rot with holes. Definitely a hazard.

Despite the hotel being practically empty, they put us in a room in the annex with creepy haunted children photos on the walls (all good, easily covered with towels). But our toilet ran constantly, the fan didn't work in our bathroom so we had to keep the door open, and they don't regularly change the batteries on their smoke detector so it BEEEEEPED at one minute intervals all night long. Seriously, every minute, on the minute from 11pm until the next morning. No sleep was had. When I mentioned to the front desk lady in the morning, she was great about it and offered a refund. But she told me I'd have to initiate through Expedia, then they would call the hotel and the hotel would confirm. Well, I did that. But when Expedia called the hotel they refused the refund, even with several tries. Mendocino is an adorable town, but stay elsewhere.

The employee who checked us into our rooms was THE BEST! He told us a little bit about the history of the building, gave us a list of restaurants, and was so funny! He definitely was the highlight of our stay! Please give him a raise!

Disappointing stay in a magical town
The guest cottage I stayed in was rough. The property overall is not maintained well and shows its age. The room was poor quality overall, particularly the bathroom. The location is excellent and in the center of the small town. The front desk service was friendly. The room was not serviced, which I was told at check in. If you have no other option for a night or two, this will do the job. I would not stay here as a tourist, unless you have very low standards.

We were disappointed that we weren’t made aware that there was no longer a restaurant / bar open on site. The young man that checked us was very courteous and kind to us. He made us feel welcome. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. It was sad to see a once beautiful hotel almost shut down. Probably won’t stay there again until up and running full scale again.

Avoid the “garden suites”
The “garden suites” are musty and a bit slummy. The hotel itself is still OK. They no longer have a restaurant. Certainly not at the level they were at a decade ago.

Staff was friendly, attentive and helpful. We had a noisy toddler in the room above us, interfering with our sleep and the desk manager quickly had us moved to another room. The location right on Main street is great for views of the ocean and an easy walk to restaurants and shops. It's a grand historic building with fine architectural details if that's your thing too.

Wonderful victorian original room, room was all clean with all expected amentities. Best price in the area in my humble opinion, and within a short walk from the majority of the sights and food to see in town.

I loved the historic nature of this hotel. Everything from ultra high ceilings to narrow hallways and the design and decor of this historic place was interesting. I also enjoyed the fact that there were no TV in the room! Just a perfect place for rest and relaxation. The loation is as good as it can get as it is a stone throe from the headland trail and the ocean views.

Love that the wood work is original. Wall paper definitely seems original. Beds are decent and linens and pillows are nice. Love the balcony that is across from ocean. Excellent location and great coffee.

Historic and electric hotel in beautiful Mendocino with stunning views. A little old and a little funky, but that's its charm. We've stayed numerous times over the years and always enjoy the staff and our stays there.

This hotel was miserable to stay in. People were fine. Facilities uncomfortable, 2 shared bathrooms for an entire floor. Window in room opened to a brick wall with zero air flow. The energy was heavy and deathly!

Never Disappoints
I love staying at the Mendocino Hotel. It’s simple and it’s like a travel back in time. The hotel is historic which makes it that much cooler. I love having the cottage feel and most of the time we get a room with its own patio so it’s nice to be able to sit out, relax and enjoy our stay.

Hotel has fallen on hard times. Not being kept up at all. Rotten wood in window and doors.. Carpeting pulled away from threshold. Smelled moldy. Would give it a miss next time.

Come here it's great
Just a delightful 1878 hotel featuring executive woodwork, real furniture made from mahogany. A door from our room opened onto a second floor balcony overlooking the ocean(Pacific). You could here the waves crashing from the bed . Just delightful every moment. I liked it!
