Fantastic value

Posted 11-Oct-2013
Pros: The best thing about this hotel is the price, hands down.
Location: Location was perfect - 10 minute walk from the train station, and loads of shops and restaurants at the front door.
You're never going to get a hotel in the city centre of Lucerne for a better price. The room was quite small, but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. If you're looking for any frills or extras this place isn't for you, but for a couple travelling on a budget it was absolutely perfect. Breakfast was great too!

Jail Hotel

Posted 28-Aug-2013
Pros: It had history. The staff was very nice
Cons: Ventilation
Location: The town was beautiful. Restaurants along the water and the scenery was amazing. Switzerland was pricey. The Great Bar is a must visit
The pictures on the internet are better then the hotel in person. The people were friendly but the hotel was stuffy and the rooms were VERY small. I felt like I was in JAIL! The free internet access is only in the small hotel lobby and not all of our devices would get internet. Hotel was clean but the overall wasn't what I expected. The bar next door the Great Bar was AWESOME!

Stay away from this place!

Pros: The only nice thing about this hotel is the central location.
Cons: A chair in the room and some minimal level of comfort; friendlier staff; cleaner rooms and hall ways; decent towels, etc.
Location: Luzern city center.
We knew and expected a "jail" like experience; however some level of comfort would be nice. The rooms don't even have a chair or curtain. The rooms don't have Internet; the hotel does not have an elevator. The showers are terrible, the noise (we did read the warning) was worst than we expected (people talking in front of our room on the third floor half the night). And the place is dirty and dusty. This place is not worth the money. Only positive is the location (center of Luzern) - if you travel by train; there is no parking ( expensive parking garage is close). We will not stay here again.

Bars not Mini Bars

Posted 02-May-2013
Pros: Fun, interesting experience - well worth trying
Location: In Luzern old city - great location
Does what it says on the can! You are staying in a converted (just) prison and will be in a small cell with bars on the windows and very rudimentary facilities - that is the point - it is an experience. The conversion is very well done and it is a fun place to spend a night or two - probably not more... Well worth trying (not sure we'll go back again) but certainly not for honeymooners! We stayed in a basic room some of the other suites appeared to be less basic.

The only thing missing was a mirror, but then, in a jail cell mirrors were most likely not a part of the decor.

They aren't kidding when they say "Jailhotel" as the rooms are old jail cells. It was a little creepy at first but we didn't mind as we were looking for a cheap place to stay for two nights in a good location. The location is excellent and as we weren't planning to spend any time in the room, the room was sufficient for its purpose. We didn't mind that the room was small, the bathroom was smaller, or that the two twin mattresses were on the floor but I was a bit bothered that there weren't any window coverings and you look straight across the narrow road into another building- weird, especially when it's dark outside and the lights are on. Otherwise, the hotel served its purpose for our visit and we enjoyed Lucerne. Would recommend if you want a cheap hotel in a good location.

Short walk to train sta and boat piers

Posted 02-Nov-2012 on Hotels.com
Room was good for the money, actually a little more roomy than the pics indicate. My room had private bath in the room and 2 twin beds. No lift so that might make a difference to some people. I wouldn't say it was noisy there at night, but occassionally you could hear the 'bass' of the nightclub. This was mostly from around 11 pm. to 2 am. Only one block off of main shopping and restaurant district and about a 10 minute walk to train and boat piers.

Unique experience

The hotel was great! It is located in the heart of old town, very easy to walk to all of the attractions. It was a unique experience, the jail was in use until 1998. The hotel is located above a nigh club, but we emailed ahead of time and asked for a quiet room and they gave us a corner room which was very quiet. Only thing, I wish there was a lift in the hotel. It was hard carrying our luggage up 3 flights of stairs.
