Independent, Kathmandu Valley Hotels

Loved our stay at the Kantipur Temple House. The service, the location, the cleanliness were all very good. I've stayed elsewhere and this was the best. On top of that they are environmentally aware and provide several options for helping the environment; from not overly washing towels to minimizing water waist.

This is a good, affordable hotel with excellent service and helpful staff. It is also to its advantage that it's located in Thamel, one of the central districts, filled with restaurants and nightclubs. Of all mid-price-range hotels I've visited in Asia, this is one of my favorites.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Shanker. I stayed on two occasions before and after two weeks trekking in Nepal. The hotel offers outstanding value and sits in an oasis of immaculately maintained grounds in the centre of Kathmandu. The building itself is really interesting inside and I found its layout so much better than normal mundane hotel chains. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly which added to the enjoyment of my stay. I look forward to returning one day.

I booked this hotel for a four night stay in Thamel, and was generally pleased. My room was toward the street and so the music and street noise lasted until the early morning hours, especially on Friday night, but I was expecting that based on other reviews. Mr. Ram, the owner, was very helpful. He will want to help you arrange whatever you may need as far as sightseeing while you are there. I booked a mountain flight through him and he made all the arrangements for a group of 14. The only thing I would suggest is that you confirm and re-confirm the cost before you make the arrangements. He quoted me a price per person and then added extra fees onto it a few times after the agreement was made. But the flight was spectacular, and overall it was a good experience working with him

My wife and I stayed at the Backyard Hotel late April, 2013. The rooms were standard rooms. Nice and clean with hot water all the time. The hotel is located in the middle of Thamel. The amenities of the hotel are spectacular. The staff is exemplary. Durga is the best. From the pick up at the airport by Sagar, to the complementary breakfast, free tea and coffee and excursion planning, no other hotel can compare. Durga personally assissted us in the purchase of ear rings and a nose ring for my wife and took us to several shops for purchase of gits for family members. I can not speak highly enough of the king service provided by ;the staff at the Backyard Hotel. I wholeheartedlly recommend this hotel in Katmandu

This was an amazing experience for us after a three week journey through India. From the time we were picked up at the airport with bottles of cold water and cold towels, the service just got better. The staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.

A clean hotel (for Nepalese standards; we stayed in another, more expensive hotel and the cleanliness level was about the same) with fantastic staff (we were served breakfast at 5:30AM even though it was not the time the restaurant usually opens) located in the very heart of Thamel but in a secluded courtyard offering quiet nights and pleasant view/open air dining experience. If you ask for a room next to the shared bathroom, you'll get your own private bathroom with a shower in your room. All we had to do is to show our expedia reservation - they want good reviews.

Lovely hotel set in a quiet street off Thamel. No complaints whatsover only compliments, excellent staff , always prepared to go that extra step and also an excellent tour manager

Hotel staff is not reliable. Though your booking is confirmed even after full payment, allocation of rooms can not be guaranteed. Hotel staff doen't take any responsibility. Rooms are ordinary, not worth to be called as Star hotel. I just spent one day there, hotel has refused to give me bill. I will not recommend this hotel for any foreign visitor.

Usually stay at KTM Guest House. Vaishali is newer, superior rooms nicer, bathrooms better than KTMGH. However, it's not as "quaint," restauant and ammenities not as cool. Still, it"s clean and quiet. Pricey, but fair for online rate.
