It was built in the 19th century as the City Council Chambers and has fabulous stained glass, tilework and woodwork. The dining room is an architect's dream - originally the council chambers. Our room was so incredible, I could have stayed here for months. Restaurant was delicious and the staff in this hotel were very good. "

All the staff were friendly and helpful and catered for a number of special requests. "Stayed for one night to break up a long drive back from Scotland, and so pleased we did. The location is wonderful, we had a lovely walk along the track just behind the building near the river. Beautiful countryside, very peaceful and interesting to see the remains of a roman bridge and Fort close-by. The room itself was excellent, and the whole place had real character, nice food at the resturant too. Finally thanks to the staff for beong friendly and welcoming, I would love to come back...
