The Lion is well placed a short walk from the centre of Belper, and we have stayed there a number of times. The staff are always very helpful and pleasant. However, Room 17 still has the same bedside wall light out of action 5 months on from when I reported it in August 2023. The dressing table is very tired, with lots of marks from hot cups etc. on it and what looks like a cigarette burn on the white platter the tea, coffees etc. sit on. The bathroom is fairly recently refitted and the shower over bath works fairly well, but on the floor in a nook next to the tap end of the bath is unpleasantly stained. Another towel rail across from the bath would be good as well. It did not appear that the radiator was working. That said, we would stay at the Lion again for its sheer convenience and atmosphere.

Nice hotel with different foods to choose from than the boring standard menus. Rooms are ok albeit very dark. More lighting would be nice. They always try and put you in the noisy room above the bar. Avoid this one and you will have a reasonably quiet stay.

Great hotel for a short-stay
This is a great little hotel with a lot of character. The bar and restaurant areas are well maintained and staff are super helpful and friendly. Check-in was a breeze as was check-out. Can't fault this venue

Enjoyable visit
Very pleasant experience with a nice continental breakfast and a very good evening meal menu. The internet could do with an update to make connection easier and more reliable and I would have liked grab handles on the wall to be able to use the shower over the bath. However, overall we enjoyed our visit very much.

My room this time was comfortable and quiet, however I have stayed before in order rooms which had noise from a generator or the road all night. Disappointing continental breakfast had very little choice. Helpful staff.

Great
Lovely spacious room and bathroom. Bathroom was exceptionally clean and it was a surprisinglyquietroom. We had the continental breakfast which had a good choice. We also enjoyed drinks and live entertainment in the bar are area in the evening.

Comfortable but old fashioned.
Reception was really far too busy for one person to handle. Consequently there was a little frustration evident. Continental breakfast is included, however, a cooked breakfast is a £9.50 option - this could be made clearer when booking. Rooms are comfortable but old fashioned and quite 'tired'.

A week in Belper.
The room I was in overlooked the courtyard for the smokers and the noise from them was at times very loud and went on until midnight, not pleasant. Otherwise it was a nice place to stay. The food in the bar was very tasty.

Good overall stay with secure parking. Room was spacious (suite) and well equipped. Breakfast was good quality (English) however, did have to pay extra for it against the continental breakfast.

Warm, comfortable and friendly
Warm, comfortable and friendly. Mostly an enjoyable stay, however, it was disappointing that the hotel staff we talking loudly right outside the bedrooms in the morning. There was no chance of a peaceful lie-in. These staff seemed to have no empathy for the paying customer who might have expected some peace and quiet. If you want to chat then do so quietly somewhere away from the bedrooms. This was poor customer service; which is a shame because the rest of the stay was good.

Walking week
Good central location, with decent road / rail / bus links, a comfortable hotel. Ideal location for walking in that area. There are plenty of places to walk, e.g. Derwent Valley Heritage Way, and visit, e.g. Derby, Cromford Mills and Denby nearby.

Good value for the price
A busy hotel located on the main road in middle of town. Staff very friendly. Restaurant food really excellent and the included continental breakfast very good. Room somewhat tired and definitely in need of updating but very clean. All in all, a good value for money experience for the price paid. The advertised free car parking very much a hit and miss affair. Spaces for about 20/25 cars but used by some staff and people just popping into hotel for a drink. Be prepared to have to use the large adjacent public car park (charges apply)

The staff have always been very pleasant and efficient. Our room (17) was nice and once we had mastered the hot and cold for the shower (we could not get it off scalding until the 2nd day of our stay), so was the bathroom. The Lion does host wedding receptions and parties, and unfortunately we were directly over the functions room and the disco, so things didn't quieten down until midnight. The included continental breakfast was very good, and we didn't bother to pay the extra £9.95 for cooked breakfast. The open air car park is pretty good, although by it's nature only partially secure, with a code operated barrier to exit. Overall, The Lion is good value for money, and we will stay again when in the area.
