The Lion is well placed a short walk from the centre of Belper, and we have stayed there a number of times. The staff are always very helpful and pleasant. However, Room 17 still has the same bedside wall light out of action 5 months on from when I reported it in August 2023. The dressing table is very tired, with lots of marks from hot cups etc. on it and what looks like a cigarette burn on the white platter the tea, coffees etc. sit on. The bathroom is fairly recently refitted and the shower over bath works fairly well, but on the floor in a nook next to the tap end of the bath is unpleasantly stained. Another towel rail across from the bath would be good as well. It did not appear that the radiator was working. That said, we would stay at the Lion again for its sheer convenience and atmosphere.

Nice hotel with different foods to choose from than the boring standard menus. Rooms are ok albeit very dark. More lighting would be nice. They always try and put you in the noisy room above the bar. Avoid this one and you will have a reasonably quiet stay.

Great hotel for a short-stay
This is a great little hotel with a lot of character. The bar and restaurant areas are well maintained and staff are super helpful and friendly. Check-in was a breeze as was check-out. Can't fault this venue
