Stylish and great location
Only stayed one night at the Highlander, but was really impressed with how stylish the room was and the location which is very close to Dam Square. I slept really well and had a great shower, room service was efficient… My only regret was having to leave early the next day, so couldn’t take advantage of the breakfast!

When the price is right (say, less than 300$)
The stay was great; the room was a bit small and stale, but the staff, hotel reception and breakfast were uplifting. The shower did not stay the same temperature long enough, but not too badly. For breakfast, they did not have a lot of vegan options, so they game me an additional sald that I liked a lot, along with the beans, mushrooms, granola and fruits served in the buffet.

Breakfast wasn't to our liking not enough variety hot food was luke warm it wasn't replenished quick enough. Room was clean but lacked any storage for clothes. Didn't like the layout of the shower and wash basin in the bedroom. Staff were friendly but acted cold towards us when we complained about breakfast. Won't be returning

The rooms were cute and clean. The shower is part of the room, not in a separate bathroom, and the shower wall is transparent. Make sure you don't mind the person you are staying with seeing you naked. There is major road work going on in form of the hotel so it was loud, muddy, ugly and we had to walk a ways to get to transportation.

2 night stay - November ‘22
We booked a deluxe suite, the room was lovely and well decorated/very good size with a lovely with a street view - though the road is currently under construction. The room and hotel was very clean with a powerful shower and extremely comfortable bed, though the pillows were an odd shape and too high, very uncomfortable to try and sleep with, the air con was also very cold and seemed to turn back on at a certain time. Easy to come and go, very good location and within walking distance off everything.

Great location, BUT so many other options!
The Highlander both delights and disappoints...unfortunately the disappointments outweigh the delights. First the good...great location, cute cafe, wonderful breakfast and welcoming staff. Now the not so good, the hotel is on a street undergoing major renovation to the point that we were unable to have our taxi drop us off at the property and had to walk almost 15 minutes with our luggage through sidewalks under construction. The rooms are very dark, small with no closet. TV works inconsistently if at all. Property is in desperate need of an upgrade. In the spirit of full disclosure I accidentally booked an extra night. In that I had booked 4 rooms I asked staff if they could possibly cancel the charges for 1 of the rooms or reduce the cost to a weeknight rate rather than a weekend rate...was given a hard NO. An additional item to be aware of, if you are booking for friends do NOT. They will take you credit card and charge you for all rooms you initially reserved regardless of the fact that your friend's provided their credit cards upon check in. So many choices in beautiful Amsterdam, I would recommend other options.

Great location to central Amsterdam. Bed was large and comfortable but took up most of the room. Limited ability to unpack. Rooms are kind of dark but are clean and well maintained. Good breakfast. Staff very helpful. Not the fault of the hotel but lots of construction (September 2022) with street torn up, narrow sidewalks. Noise not an issue but worth being aware of so you're prepared. I don't have a point of reference since I've never been to Amsterdam before so can't judge the cost. Seemed high, but that may well be standard for this city. Would be worth comparing to others if travelling. It may well be a decent value--I just don't have enough experience to judge. Also, our room was less expensive than some-- others in the same hotel may be more comfortable. From our experience it was a good choice for 3 nights--I wouldn't select the Highlander for an extended stay, or would at least see about their larger rooms.

The bed was VERY comfortable, the best we had during our trip in Europe. Rooms are smaller than we expected even tho we opted forthe mi-size double. Breakfast was good- scrambled eggs, pancakes, beans, bacon, breads, ect. My main complaint there was the foul rap music that was playing loudly in the dining area and elevator, the housekeeping staff seemed to yell a each other actoss rooms in the hall, and I killed 3 bugs in the room during our stay. The location was very convenient to the train statiion as well as shops, restaurants, and sights. We walked everywhere, Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum, Red Light District, ect.

This is a stylish hotel, but one that comes up a bit short on functionality. Our king room was spacious but the lack of an actual bathroom (there is a toilet room, but the sink and shower are just part of the bedroom area) is unworkable. Also, for this price-point we find the lack of room amenities such as lotion, wash cloths, cleansing pads, ear swabs and tissues a big miss. Also, when did NO towel rods or hooks become a thing? How are you supposed to hang up damp towels when there is NO place to hang them. The electronic lighting controls were difficult to manage and never very acceptable. We always use the stairs but in this hotel they are carpeted in black carpeting, are steep with short steps and there is little lighting in the stairwell, making them quite dangerous to use. On the positive side, we found the small breakfast buffet very good as there is an attendant cooking and taking care of things. I think we would try someplace else when we return to Amsterdam.

The Highlander is located perfectly in the city centre of Amsterdam. It is a very safe location and very easy to get anywhere in the city. The rooms are very small but nicely appointed. The breakfast was very good. Everyone was very nice and helpful. If you are looking for a quiet area this is probably not for you. It was very loud in our room as it faced the street but we enjoy the hustle and bustle.

Property was beautiful itself and the staff were very friendly. Some cons were: my room and the hotel itself smelled liked a sewer many of the days I visited. They advertised 24/7 room service but that only included drinks, their food was only pizza you could order for room service. I had my light on all day for my room to be cleaned by house keeping and it wasn’t done. I had to find staff in the evening to clean it. They advertise a bedside iPad like device that you can use for multiple reasons and that was also missing from my room. When I inquired about it I was told there were not enough to go around.
