We were recommended uMhlanga by friends as a safer and fancier option to the Golden Mile. It was pleasant, we had a great curry at Incredible India and spent some time at the pier.

The Umhlanga beach area is excellent good shops bars and restaurants. It felt safe with no beggars or street sellers unlike Durban. Would definitely return but maybe stay in a hotel nearer the beach area.
