Haro is a small town in La Rioja, home to breathtaking scenery, known for its exceptional wines and interesting historical and cultural heritage.
You can start the day at the emblematic Plaza de la Paz, presided over by the Neo-Gothic stone façade of the town hall. Built in the 18th century, it’s one of the most symbolic buildings of Haro, and the largest civil works project in the city. Close by is the Municipal Cultural Centre and the tourist office, where you’ll find everything you need to get the most out of your holiday in Haro.
On one of the corners of the square, you’ll find a 14th-century medieval tower that houses the contemporary art section of the La Rioja Museum. If you want to learn more about the most famous regional produce, you must visit the Wine Interpretation Centre. The exhibition explores the history of wine growing and the wine-making process.
Cheap trips to Haro mean you can explore the wonders of the religious architecture, such as the parish church of Santo Tomás Apóstol, located at the foot of La Mota hill. If you’re a camera buff, you’ll certainly want to immortalise the main façade, built in the 17th century, an example of the artistic wealth of the Renaissance. The Basilica of Nuestra Señora de la Vega is another great option, as it’s home to a baroque altarpiece dating back to 1740.
