The property is hidden, and a small walk from the main Tembo hotel, but what makes up for it is the wonderful staff. Their friendliness, and willing to assist you at everything. The breakfast menu was amazing, a mix of everything which was very pleasant. The rooms can use alittle bit of an upgrade, and they should probably prohibit photo sessions from people on the streets, as there was alot of flash on the outside (but maybe an exception because of the public holiday). I would definitely stay again. Thank you

Perfect location
Very good location to visit Stone Town, excellent breakfast, very clean, the two pools were clean. All the staff is very helpful and extremely polite. I recommend this Hotel.

Great studio flat
Rented the studio flat in the outbuilding (3 min walk from main hotel), did have to climb four flight of stairs but the room was worth it. Brilliant air con, washing machine and the bed and bathroom were great! Couldn't find the cable channels on the TV but that may have been my lack of tech knowledge. Main restaurant had good variety of food although service was typically slightly slow. Would definitely stay here again.

The staff that helped us to our rooms and checked us in were very helpful and welcoming. Our stay in the B&B apartments itself however, was pretty disappointing. The room was dark and when you opened the blinds you are overlooked from every window including in the bathroom. The room was in need of renovation particularly in the bathroom where the cabinetry was old and rusting in places. No shower curtain or screen so the whole bathroom gets soaked when you wash. Breakfast was really good. There was a full intercontinental spread as well as local dishes- all very delicious.

Okay for a few days
I was in the apartments not the main hotel. They are about a 100m away through a smelly alley and down a side street. They're decent. The balcony didn't have a chair which I asked for on day 1 and never got. You use the main hotel facilities. Beach/pool are nice. Slightly too close to the port for my liking and a huge shipping boat was in front of the hotel for most of my stay. The diesel smoke it let off wasn't pleasant.

Not the best experience
We were transfered to apartments remote from the hotel with only walking access down narrow lane no use of taxi. .Staff were helpful and polite at all times. Room and common areas very clean. Aircon and fan worked well. Unfortunately my wife sustained a back injury on a terribly potholed road from our last venue and the apartments have no ground floor and no lifts. Neither does the main hotel. Our room had no chairs, cups or glasses. The common area includes a kitchen but with no cooking utensil. A small amount of coffee and powdered milk was supplied each morning which disappeared early without top up. There is a washing machine which one of the guests decided to use at midnight and finallied with a long spin. The beach location is good, food was good and fair priced but I did suffer gastro from food poisoning and sick for three days. Management supplied me with suitable medication however which did help. Breakfasts were ample and menue varied but do not expect full English. If you need a two or three night stop over this is good value for money but if you have knee or hip problems stay clear of the apartments

Hate to give a great review - want to keep secret!
Amazing amazing amazing. Nearly everyone speaks English, breakfast is amazing. Right on the ocean, easy ride to islands. Rooms are AC and refrigerator too. Large bathrooms. Cannot wait to come back! $15 taxi from/to airport. Walk to markets, right in Stone Town. Restaurant on site also

WiFi was terrible and heard many guest complaining during checkout. Had to use my cell phone hotspot for internet access most times over the weekend. Room was across the street from the beach and was “lackluster” compared to photos. Overall acceptable but WiFi a critical must in this day/age.

Staff were very helpful and the rooms were very clean clean, spacious and quiet. I struggled with internet connectivity however which was possible due to me not staying in the main house. If you need internet connectivity in your room, I recommend you let the staff know so you are not put into a room with a weak signal.

It is a budget friendly hotel with poor conditions - I didnt find it clean. there is no cheese, tomatoes, cucumber etc for the breakfast - just pastry, fruit and eggs. Staff is very welcoming and helpful

Best hotel in Stonetown!
Best hotel to stay in Stonetown. In the middle of everything so you can walk to wherever you need. Seems to be the most popular place to stay in Stonetown, pools are great, staff are very helpful, breakfast is good and you cant go wrong with this hotel.

We actually stayed in the Tembo Hotel portion of the property. The staff was excellent and the rooms are large, clean and the aircon worked great! Right on the beach with a beautiful pool. Great breakfast. The owners and staff do their best to make you 'feel at home.' Right in the center of Stone Town next to a lot of nice restaurants and close to ATMs. Perfect place to stay in Stone Town!

Tembo House Hotel is a great place. We stayed in the apartments across the street which are a bit more modern though you don't get the views the main hotel has in it's sea-facing rooms. We had a small balcony and also a/c which was great in the heat. Breakfasts were great and all staff were friendly and efficient

My stay was exceptional!! The service was superb! I didn't eat at the hotel, so i can't speak to the food, but the staff recommended AMAZING restaurants nearby (walking distance). This is an amazing place to stay!! Definitely staying here again!!

Request the apartments opposite the main hotel
If you're planning to stay at Tembo apartments, make sure to request the apartments directly opposite the main Tembo hotel. They have more apartments behind, which i do not suggest you stay in. My husband and I stayed in one those apartments only to be hit by the stench of sewage once we used the washroom. We requested to be moved to another room, but since the manager wasn't available, we got another apartment that also had plumbing issues. The next day the manager agreed to put us in the apartment building opposite the hotel, which was a pleasant stay. The rooms are bigger and had typical zanzibar furniture/style. Despite the initial plumbing nightmare, the staff were very helpful and friendly.

The room is decent however the location is not the best. The staff are difficult to get hold of. And we have to walk to the main hotel for breakfast - very inconvenient.

Dear Imran, firstly i would like to take this opportunity to give my deepest apologies for our short falls. I will be passing on your comments to our staff and management in regards to the difficulties you faced to get hold of someone. We do have a phone inside the rooms were you could have called the reception direct by dialing 0 as explained upon your checking, but we are human so i guess you did forget. In regards to walking to the main hotel, we feel it is a great bonus as its only half a minute walk which gives you free access to the beach. Only 3 hotels in Stone town have access to the beach, one of them is our property. Most our customers give us great feedback the fact they are able to have the bonus of having breakfast on the beachfront of stone town, we do apologies this wasn't to your taste or expectations. 4th stay at Tembo. Best location in Stonetown. The main hotel is like a museum with lots of interesting artifacts. The terraces are majestic and the best place to watch the beach activity, the boats, the sunsets. The annex and apartments are clean and spacious. The staff are excellent
