Leave the pressures of the modern world behind and enter a world of clear blue lagoons, rugged volcanic landscapes and huge manta rays.

The Yasawa Islands chain is made up of 20 islands over an 80 kilometre stretch of the Pacific Ocean. These islands were created by volcanic activity that took place millions of years ago. In contrast to the rocky landscape, they are bordered by the most beautiful coral reefs. With plenty of resorts to choose from, the Yasawas have something to appeal to everyone.

If you love snorkelling, then you’re in the right place. The bays around Naviti Island and the Blue Lagoon, made famous by the 1980 film of the same name are favoured by locals. Take a boat trip to Manta Ray Lagoon, between Nanuya Balavu and Drawaqa islands. You can also swim with magnificent manta rays.

There are some great scuba diving spots on the outer reefs. Grab your flippers and dive down deep to explore the underwater caves off Nacula Island. If you’re new to diving, many resorts have instructors and equipment you can use so you can get the most out of your first diving adventure

If you prefer to stay above water, sea kayaking is always fun or for something a bit more challenging, try wakeboarding. If you love the feel of the wind blowing through your hair, hire a jet ski. Try your hand at fishing. You can proudly take your haul back to your resort where you can have it expertly barbecued for dinner. You can’t get much fresher than that! Back on terra firma, take a hike up the hills of the Nacula, Waya or Wayasewa islands for stunning views of the whole island chain.

If you prefer to just relax, these islands are ideal with their warm climate. Chill in a hammock, enjoy a massage on the beach or simply relax under the shade of a palm tree. After dark, sip a cocktail in one of the many island beach bars

The Yasawa Flyer catamaran runs daily from Port Denarau and stops at most major resorts on the islands. The Flyer takes three to four hours to reach the Yasawa Islands, so plan to stay for a few days. Resorts range from exclusive to budget dorm rooms, and everything in between.

"Great coral and fish in front of the hotel, mantas are close by and amazing, resort is nice- more on the rustic side vs fancy, but we liked that. Overall a nice experience!"

Don’t book via Hotels.com
"DO NOT BOOK YOUR STAY ON HOTELS.COM. They will not have your reservation when you show up.
