"Motel 6 in Marshalltown, Iowa was honestly one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had.
When you arrive, there is no staffed front desk. Instead, you’re greeted by security cameras and a sign telling you to call the front desk number. A man answered with “What do you want?” instead of anything remotely welcoming. After standing in a hot, non-air-conditioned lobby for about five minutes, he drove up from another location and checked us in.
The room itself was barely acceptable. There were holes in the walls, cigarette burn holes in the bedspread, dirty surfaces that clearly hadn’t been wiped down, and only two tiny pillows on the bed. My wife asked for two more pillows and was initially told no, despite the motel appearing nearly empty.
Eventually he brought two larger pillows and came into the room to look at the issues. His response was basically, “It is what it is.”
The shower curtain rod is mounted so poorly the curtain sticks to you while showering. There was no shampoo provided, just two tiny soap bars. One towel even had stains on it. I also killed two spiders during our stay.
To be fair, the TV, mini fridge, and air conditioning worked.
But there are absolutely no amenities here. No coffee, no breakfast, and no hospitality. At nearly $90 after taxes, this felt like a $40 roadside motel at best. This is exactly the kind of experience that gives older budget hotels a bad reputation."
"We have stayed here several times over the years during family reunions at Camp Pine Lake. The motel is consistently clean and comfortable. I noticed the bathroom had been upgraded since our last stay.
I was especially grateful to the staff this year for kindly mailing to me an item I had forgotten after our stay. They go above and beyond to provide excellent guest service."
"I was happy with my entire experience! Check-in was easy and staff was friendly. The clean room had a kitchen, large TV and very comfortable bed. I enjoyed having the sliding glass door open with a nice breeze! Will stay again when in Hampton. Thank you!"
"We were shocked and disappointed to learn that Wyndom took out the racks to hang clothes on. What the left was three small hooks - no hangers and so no real way to hang one's clothes in a straight way to avoid the hook marks. WE TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH WYNDOM AS TO WHATEVER RATIONAL THEY HAD FOR DOING THIS. We noted that the safe is on the bottom shelf of a nightstand so one practically has to get on one's hands and knees to use it. There are no drawers, just open shelves. Again, we're really sorry Wyndom made these changes as they a real inconvenience to guests."
"Great breakfast was definitely more than most hotels everything was great! The bathrooms could use a little face lift but still clean and comfortable. Nice gym with an attached Mexican restaurant"
"The room was clean and the air was cold, but the water pressure isn't the best. The bathtubs need to have some anti slip grips put in them as a little soap makes them slick."
