If the hustle & bustle of busy Cologne gets to be too much, the lovely town of Königswinter on the banks of the Rhine may prove a relaxing alternative. Das Hotel Krone is in the centre of town about a 5 minute walk from the train station. I’ve stayed here before and been very happy. But, it’s under new management/ownership now and the quality of the experience has increased a lot. The place is clean, the staff are friendly and helpful and the breakfasts are wonderful.

Absolutely brilliant. Brand new property with excellent well thought out accommodation. Great for family or friends get together. Two bed apartment, with jack & jill bathroom connecting the bedrooms, kitchen, diner and lounge, with a small balcony and parking. Highly recommended. The proprietors / staff here were charming, and obviously take a real pride in the hotel. Everything is immaculate - spotlessly clean and prettily presented. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, and ours opened on to a terrace and a beautiful, peaceful garden. Lovely bedlinen, and - hallelujah! - no useless, grubby cushions on the bed (as some hotels still insist on doing). Breakfast was worth every cent of the €9 it cost. Parking was convenient - right outside the hotel - at only €2 extra.

We stayed here for a visit to Koblenz and the Rhine and its position 10 km outside the city in the countryside was perfect. The room was medium size and had everything you could need provided. We asked for extra pillows and these were provided immediately. The restaurant food was excellent.

It was great. We arrived a bit confused, as there was a surprise Kraftklub concert at the venue. I expected a calm and quiet vacation with my mom after going to the local spa, but this was better! Security and staff let the very few guest at the hotel "attend" the concert from our window views. The town is definitely mostly car-friendly, and many things are closed for the winter, but the concert was awesome!

Why don’t the English speaking peoples of the world view Germany as a holiday destination? The Rhineland is the the equal of all the most beautiful places on Earth, equal to the Lake District, Cornwall, the West Coast of Ireland and the Highlands of Scotland! My hosts spoke perfect English and were incredibly kind to my boy who celebrated his 8th birthday there. I like this hotel and it is my preferred choice when staying in this part of the world! Great food. Good sized room. Easy parking...and I know my way around the local town too!
