A visit to Vrådal offers fun on the slopes, beautiful lakes, islands and magnificent mountain ranges. The youngsters can be sent off to the skate park while you practise your golf. There are several marked trails to embark upon. Why not bring a bucket and forage for berries or mushrooms in autumn?
The village is situated in the municipality of Kviteseid in Telemark, near the lakes Nisser and Vråvatn. The main industry is based around tourism and the first hotel opened in 1864. The famous Telemarkskanalen canal is just a stone’s throw away and you can follow the waterway through separate locks between Nisser and Vråvatn.
If you visit Vrådal during winter, Vrådal Panorama Skisenter with slopes of all difficulties as well as several cross country trails is one of the biggest draws. In summer, you can take a trip on the historic boat M/S Fram, which makes scheduled journeys on the lakes. A visit to Vrådal Slusemuseum is highly recommended for rainy days. At the Silversmith Centre, you can see how the silverware for the traditional Telemark Bunad dress is made.
If you want to see more of the nature in the area there are several marked walks to choose from. Visits to the Venelifjell and Hægefjell mountains are popular and several of the local peaks extend more than 3,200 feet above sea level and offer fantastic views. The white and shallow beaches at Nisser are also favourites in the area, especially for those with small children.
It is most practical to travel to Vrådal by car as you can choose your own route and pace. From Oslo, the drive is just over 125 miles and from Stavanger it is about 161 miles. There are no trains to Vrådal but it is possible to arrive there by bus.
Most choose to visit for a whole week but it is perfectly possible to take a weekend trip. Regardless of the duration, Vrådal will provide you with fond memories to last a lifetime.
