Love culture, history and the nature in Central Norway? Go climbing, play a round of golf or see what Verdal looks like from above!

The municipality of Verdal is situated in Nord-Trøndelag. Verdalselva is considered one of the best salmon rivers in the country and the highest mountain in the municipality is Løysmundhatten, 3570 feet above sea level. On foot, the journey takes around two days but it can be reached in a day on skis.

Verdal is a historic municipality and traces of mankind dating all the way back to the Stone Age have been found. The site at Hallemsmarka contains a unique collection of ancient monuments. Discoveries have been made at the burial site, showing how people lived in the area, in the form of weapons, gold-covered metal and glass, which at the time was a status symbol.

Verdal might be best known for the battle of Stiklestad in 1030, at which Olav the Holy was killed. If you are travelling to Verdal, you should visit Stiklestad Nasjonale Kultursenter to find out about the historical heritage of Norway. Museums, old buildings and the outdoor play about Olav the Holy are just some of the attractions. Stiklestad Church, built where Olav the Holy fell, is also worth a visit.

If you like golf, you should visit one of Verdal’s golf courses. One of them is ideally situated with views across Trondheimsfjorden and in winter you can also play golf using a golf simulator! Would you like to experience Verdal from the air? Go sightseeing in a helicopter and look across the coast and fjords – such a journey provides an entirely different perspective to the one on the ground.

You can easily get here by train via the Nordland Line or by bus along the E6. You can fly from the UK to Trondheim Airport, Værnes, situated approximately 35 miles away.

Verdal is known as the place where all Norwegian lottery millionaires have come from. Make the journey and see if the luck will rub off!
