Västmanland County Travel Guide

Sweden

Västerås is one of the oldest cities in Sweden and Northern Europe. The area has been populated since the Nordic Viking Age, before 1000 AD. In the beginning of the 11th century it was the second largest city in Sweden.

Most of the houses are completely red except for the white gables. That's because of the special paint called Falu red or Falun red that was first created and used in Falun in the copper mines in Dalarna. It is well known for its use on wooden cottages and barns.

A beautiful sunset in the woods around my home town Västerås. I wasn't out to take photos but if it's one thing I've learnt it is that one should always bring a camera!
