"Lovely staff and spa facilities"

"Overall my stay was satisfactory, but the level of noise coming from back of house staff late at night was appalling. My room was directly above the kitchen/loading area and it was honestly unbelievable how much noise the staff were making "cleaning up" in the evening, consistently from about 8pm-11:30pm when I had enough. It was like they were literally throwing metal containers around and shouting across the space at full volume. I live in central London and have never experienced disruption like this, especially considering the hotel is located in a remote part of the Cumbrian countryside where you expect peace and quiet. The front of house staff were friendly and helpful but reluctant to make any direct attempts at stopping the noise, and after two complaints I finally asked to be moved to a different room. Both rooms were satisfactory but a bit run down and some corners were cut with the cleanliness. The food was also edible but not great for a vegetarian, and the service could be better (e.g. I was never offered water at dinner). It does what it says on the tin but I won't be making a return trip, purely because of the disdain the back of house staff had for paying customers and disregard of their peace and quiet."

"We stayed in this hotel for just one night on our way back from the Highlands of Scotland. I wish we had booked for longer. A beautiful building, parking on site, a large warm room and very cheerful staff. The breakfast was brilliant with table service for a cooked breakfast, which was presented with care and cooked to perfection. We are going to return at a later date for a longer stay and to use the facilities!"

"We booked this hotel for 3 nights. The location is beautiful but quite remote. No shops so a car is needed. A lovely bar/restaurant with helpful staff, an amazing menu. Harry at reception is so helpful . If going for a cruise or into Windermere there is a card for 20% off-available from reception. A model village in the grounds . The room we had was a bit quirky but that did not bother us. There is a swimming pool, small gym and massage therapy. Would highly recommend for a few days away."

"I’m not convinced this is a five star resort. Arriving by car, the entrance to the hotel from the road is not easy to spot although this may not be easy for the hotel to rectify. We were booked in for 4 days but after day 2 the card keys were voided and I had to get Reception to fix them. Amazingly the same thing happened on day 4!"

"We only stayed one night but it was enjoyable, the staff were attentive, we enjoyed dinner in the hotel (which was a bit expensive) and there was plenty of choice for breakfast. The bedroom was large and clean, it would have been nice to stay longer to try the pool. It is well sited in a beautiful position on Windermere close to the aquarium and steam railway. Lots going on."
