Triberg im Schwarzwald Travel Guide

Tourist Guide
Triberg im Schwarzwald which includes heritage architecture and a lake or waterhole
Time stands still in this charming Black Forest town, famous for its ornately carved cuckoo clocks and picturesque waterfalls.

Old-world houses and time-honored crafts convey the strong sense of history and tradition that characterizes Triberg im Schwarzwald. In this charming town, the customs and cultures of past generations are still maintained today. Hike into the surrounding verdant countryside to enjoy even more of the region’s fairy-tale atmosphere.

It was in Triberg im Schwarzwald that the cuckoo clock was invented in the 18th century. The town could also claim to be one of the prettiest in the Black Forest.

Learn about the achievements and struggles of the region in the Black Forest Museum. Examine a model of the 120-year-old Black Forest Railway and marvel at strange curios like a collection of barrel organs. The museum also documents many Black Forest traditions, such as creating the Bollenhut, a pom-pom covered hat.

Stand beneath one of the world’s largest cuckoo clocks as the hour changes. Watch as dancing figures waltz around the balcony of a traditional house. The famous type of timepiece was first made in this area and the industry continues to this day. Browse the House of 1000 Clocks to see several different clock styles and perhaps even buy one of your own as a souvenir.

Head a short distance out of the town to reach the Triberg Waterfalls. The series of seven cascades is an impressive sight. Visit in winter to see them frozen over or come in the evening to witness them lit up. The falls are a 15-minute walk through woodland from the tourist information center in town.

Ride a train on the historic Black Forest Railway line to reach Triberg im Schwarzwald, which is located in center of the region. Explore the town first, then use it as a base to discover the rest of the beautiful Black Forest.

"It was a good-sized room. I liked the layout of the room with the master room and separate sleeping area for the kids. The bathroom is good, it’s a stand in shower for those who prefer tubs. The breakfast spread was wonderful. It’s a a great location, we didn’t try the pool but I know it’s not something ..."
