The ancient capital of Chinggis Khan fell into ruins not that long after it was established in the 13th century. His grandson, Kublai Khan moved it to Beijing. The stupas and walls have been recreated from the old stones.
We woke up at the Jalman Meadows Ger Camp to find ourselves above the clouds. Watching the ethereal clouds burn off to a brilliant day was wonderful. We were 4 bumpy hours out of Ulaanbaatar.
The ancient capital of Chenggis Khan is the site of a functioning Buddhist community. People come here to have their fortunes told and their troubles assuaged. Many mostly young monks were enjoying the fresh air and glorious sunshine.

Wandering Hustai National Park in Mongolia was like taking a step back in time.

The landscape had a prehistoric feel and it was a place where you could see wildlife that, in other parts of Asia, is essentially gone - for instance, Przewalski's horse.
