"Everything you need, nothing you don’t. Could not be more convenient to the train and the waterfront. The hosts are very helpful and welcoming. Occasionally it could be noisy, as it’s on the hiking path, but it quiets down in the evening. It’s very small and there’s nowhere to hang wet coats/clothes after a rainy day, but hopefully most people enjoy it in good weather! "

The rooms are set away from the reception area and you have to go down gravel steps. I’m pretty young and ok with it, but my 66-year-old mom struggled. So be prepared for that. "We stayed July 13-16, 2025 and we were delighted with the service and friendliness of ALL the staff- they were like a second family. Andrea was very helpful, and accommodating and friendly. Let us have a choice of rooms, and made himself available at any hour. The room was nice, clean and big. The bathroom was also nice with the biggest and best shower of any place we stayed during our 2 weeks in Italy.
Very easy to access from the parking garages, quiet, clean and comfortable for a wonderful experience. If I ever make it back to the Cinque Terre I will definitely stay at Albergo Al Carugio again."

"This is a beautiful former monastery high up above Monterosso. You need to contact the hotel in advance to make a shuttle reservation and they will pick you up near the train station. The hotel also has a restaurant and bar. Most of the other guests were hikers from the trail between towns. We sat outside at sunset with a glass of wine, admiring the beautiful view. While there’s no Wi-Fi or AC in the rooms in the main building, it was very comfortable, clean and quiet. There were large windows we opened to let in the breeze. We stayed with our college age kids who loved the location."
