As for our room service, we truly apologize for being unable to provide the service, this is due to the recent fire that has taken place in our resort which evidently restricts our resources to providing room service. Staff and service culture (and prices) are completely out of whack and we strongly recommend avoiding this place until they improve. Examples: * Staff told us to 'come here' to order food and drinks - not a problem usually but they charge more than at home at this 'resort' which is supposed to be top class for the island. * Breakfast was generally very mediocre - poor selection. Coffee machine not working? Come back tomorrow morning. Need a spoon? It's over there, ferenghi. Fruit juices on the menu? We have two of the seven listed. * the kicker: We were sat in the Chinese restaurant trying to get a healthy option (US $65 minimum or so for two...every single meal came in around these prices), when a guitarist and singer came in to sing at us. Not our thing - not by a long shot. When we asked them to leave us alone directly and specifically and clearly - they smiled at us and kept singing. When we asked the waiter to ask them, he smiled and said it was 'impossible'. We actually got up, walked out, and sat outside in the heat until they left. This resort is to be avoided unless you want that kind of thing all the time. I have lived in villages and had a career in development things, and this trip literally was intended as my post-surgery "I survived a big disease thing" reward trip with my gf. We came away more tired than when we arrived and happy to get out. And much poorer for the experience.

Disappointed.
Had stayed at Berjaya Tioman some years back and enjoyed it. We decided to go back and take a short break of 4 days and 3 nights. We decided to spend a bit more and booked 2 sea view rooms. The rooms were large and pleasant. Then a fire broke out and engulfed the main restaurant and we were woken up by the commotion about 3am and had to be evacuated to the lobby of the hotel till 6 am plus. The staff did well in helping the guests get comfortable as they started assigning us alternative rooms. We were then approached and offered alternative rooms, which we were glad to take as we were tired by then. Unfortunately, they turned out to be standard rooms at the back of the property, supposedly a temporary arrangement. We understand that the hotel may have its limitations and may not have other sea view rooms to offer us. But since we had already paid for the more expensive rooms, the least the hotel could do was to reimburse us with the difference or with a meal or activity voucher. Even though we brought this up to the reception, nothing came out of it. Anyway, we decided to let it rest. Rooms: the sea view rooms are nice, not the standard rooms which are worn. Food: the restaurant food were quite average, not 'restaurant standard.' Snorkelling: you can snorkel in front of the hotel but you need to go past the dead corals and rocks. Staff: they were generally polite and helpful but management needs improvement and better understanding of the hospitality industry.

The rooms need to be updated!!!!!!!! Those with the sea view have only 2 small windows, so it s s trap and the photos do not match the reality!!!!! the location is pretty good, the breakfast could be more diverse.

Need to educate their staff on efficiency and handling of complaints. There was a fly in my noodles and I only noticed after eating some of it. Manager was not around and although staff did apologise still charged me for it even though the majority couldn’t be eaten. Beach chalet Room was large and airy and very nice

Hotel staff should tell or notify customers on the sand flies issue during the check in so that we will spray insect repellent or avoid during the dawn. Or else we wouldn't get bitten without knowing there is sandfly issue at the beach.

It’s a Berjaya, but rooms are not....
Bed buds, heater spoil, some web on the wall, non comfort mattress. The sea sports activities are good. Staff services at the counter are good too. Food wise can be much better. Berjaya used to be the best in tioman, but I feel it’s not that we’ll maintain...

I like the cleanliness of the rooms and property. What i do not like is the dead corals that were there not cleaned up at the beach and shallow beach water there. There was mistake on my booking as I had two separate bookings with two different websites/companies. Staff did not check the booking with website stated on the paperwork i supplied and checked me in with the wrong /cancelled one for the first part of my booking ; even the second part of the booking was wrong - it was not cancelled; but the staff said it was cancelled quoted by a female Malay front desk staff

The resort is well located, on the beach with good facilities. The main pool area and bar is great, the kids loved it. The smaller pool area looked great but smelled a bit of drains. The rooms were clean, had everything you needed. The food / drinks were cheap by UK standards. Staff were really helpful and informative. Previously reviews state the resort is tired looking, it’s not super modern but it has everything you need at a good price.

Breakfast buffet was good, dinner was very good. The room did not look anything like in the pictures and was very outdated. Lights were not fixed correctly to wall in the room. I was not allowed drop my partner in to reception on the scooter, but two other people were allowed in as I walked out which was very activating. Room needs to be cleaner, a lot of dust and cobwebs around the bed.

I loved my stay in berjaya tioman however the property is short handed. Despite travelling with babies and pregnant women, they don’t provide buggy ride from lobby to the room or from marine park to the room. All the bicycles and balls are charged exorbitantly despite just hourly basis. Any other resorts I have stayed, have provided them for free. Something strange in tioman. The breakfast is really good and the room service is excellent too. Yummy food.

Room is clean and neat. There isn't any room slippers provided. Resort has its own beach and jetty. Nice breakfast buffet but limited varieties. Tried dinner buffet as well but also limited varieties. Free shuttle bus is provided during ferry schedule timing. Beach towel is provided and can be brought to sea excursion. A good stay overall.

Beautiful beach and hotel, rooms were not so great
The beach here was amazing. Water was super clear and clean. We stayed in the quad garden room, area was nice, but the room was quite old and nothing special at all. No safe in the room but the reception has an area with safety boxes to use. Breakfast was alright.

The resort is beautiful, great access to beach, plenty of activities for adults and children, (Snorkling, Quad bike rides, kayaking,inhouse activitis for children etc. The food was great, the property was very clean and well maintained. Thanks for a wonderful time!

What you see in photos of Berjaya Hotel website was definitely not what the resort looks like. The airport is not working. You need ground transportation to Mersing and then catch very limited ferries across to Tioman Island. On the Berjaya Hotel website it says the time it takes on the bus, this is not true, it takes much longer. No, I would not recommend this property, will never return. We have traveled throughout Malaysia and if complementary upgrades are available you would receive it. Berjaya under no circumstances will upgrade you without paying more money whether busy or not.

Wrong choice of vacation in tioman
We are welcome with bad shuttle condition that carry overloaded passengers. Welcome drink not replenished and without water. Once reach the stay unit, capenter is painting the internal wall. Then switch another room. Try to watch tv cant as reception very bad no picture. After several complaint, end up till we check out tv not fix. We try to boil water, inside heater full of living ants. Once we cleaned we saw heater coil was tusted. The family unit quite cramp. The pillow was causing my neck paint as well. Once arrive we call for some meal. The meal plate was not collected until another day and the ants colony then concured the plate. There was no shuttle service to enable us to go to tekek for walkaround that end up to rent a car that very costly even for 2.5km distance. Overall, the surrounding environment of the resort looks sorrow, nor colorfull and no excitement. Its not the same Berjaya that i came 18 years ago. Its a rundown facility and does not looks like a resort but merely just like inorganised tekek town.

Dear Syed, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We understand your concerns on our housekeeping and front office based on your survey. After thorough investigation from our resort in regards to the matters concerned, we would like to address the situation accordingly. Firstly we would like to sincerely apologize on the miscommunication of our internal department in assigning the room as well as the water boiler incident. As for the family unit as mentioned, according to your booking information, the room was booked for 2 pax hence the room allocated to you was for 2 pax as well. On the collection of the room service items, we believe the plates were placed outside the room after dinner hour and there was no call to our housekeeping department to have plates cleared at that particular time, however our team cleared it first thing in the morning during our daily services. As for land transfers, we are unable to provide such services due to the logistic constrain we have in the island. Once again we would like to apologize for the unpleasant experience you had during your stay with us. We sure hope to welcome you back to our hotel very soon! Sincerely, Guest Relations Service
