With new restrictions and safety precautions to adhere to, travel looks a lot different nowadays. Here are a few things to know before you hop on that plane to Spitsbergen:

• Look into what rules and restrictions apply to both your origin and destination. You may not be able to travel depending on local circumstances, so be sure to check in advance.
• Wear a face mask during airport screening. A TSA officer will ask you to adjust your mask for identification purposes.
• Rather than handing a TSA agent your boarding pass, position it directly on the reader yourself. Then, hold it up for inspection.
• TSA now permits passengers to take one container of hand sanitizer, up to 12 oz (350 ml) in size, in carry-on baggage. This will have to be removed from your bag and submitted for screening.
• To minimize handling during screening, place personal items such as your loose change and phone into your carry-on instead of the bins.
• If you're bringing food on the plane, put it in a clear plastic bag and then into a screening bin. This reduces the likelihood that a TSA employee will need to handle your carry-on bag or food container for closer inspection.
