We loved being right downtown so that walking to shopping and dining was a piece of cake! Also, our room was very clean, had everything we needed, and we enjoyed hearing the creek out our back window.

Overall, it looked like a newly built building, modern and clean. It had its own parking lot, and it was nice that they provided breakfast. It was located in the city center, so walking tours were convenient. The price was also very good.

The power was out from the time we got there around 10pm-5am. Our food got spoiled cause the fridge was out. The WiFi was out and we had taken a trip to get some school work done. With no wifi im sure you could imagine how that went. The phones were also out. And it was pretty dark cause no power and the check in is across the street. Didn’t feel safe walking over there to complain.

Room was nice overall, but bedcover was a bit dirty. The bathroom sliding barn door was cute, but not maintained, and it was extremely hard to slide (I had to help my family do it). Very nice staff, but not enough in the morning-- Continental breakfast staff (also the front desk attendant) was overwhelmed and couldn't keep up with the flow, running out of things repeatedly, and no water. Might stay again, despite the issues.

I was in the area for work, and at first stayed in Modesto, when I needed to stay closer to the Sonora area I decided to stay at the Lumberjack. On first sight, it looked like every shady motel you always see in the movies, but with a fresh coat of paint. But once I walked through the room door, the room was a fresh breath with a modern deco interior, the over sized large window to the right gave a view to a small stream running by the back of the hotel between the buildings. It wasn’t spectacular by any means but it was one to take in for a bit. The staff on check in was superb, but not all the personnel working were as fabulous. In the four days I stayed, some mornings when I went to grab my small cup of coffee before the start of my work day was not as welcoming, all though it might have been my uniform. As I usually don’t eat breakfast, I can tell you that they had a fairly nice set up. Make it yourself fresh waffles, cereals, eggs and pastries. And that is if you didn’t want to take advantage of some believe it or not some fine dining on the main st running along one street away! One thing I will tell you, a must try, Flappy’s Pizza! Wow, their take on a hamburger pizza or the street taco pizza was delicious. And if you go and get lucky enough to get Emily to wait on you, tell her the “Agent” said hi. I will add one thing! I am hoping by the time you read this, that they made the correction. The safe in the room was not bolted down, which makes the safe useless!!

Front desk.... That was hard to find and across the street and down the hallway from the actual hotel.... Was on his phone tapping away at it while I'm trying to check in because he's playing some game online against somebody. Parking?.... There's not adequate parking for as many rooms as there are. So you have to go and find a parking place on your own. But the front desk will tell you it's across the street at the B of A parking lot....

We came to the Hotel Lumberjack after spending time at other lodging that was excellent in every respect. This undoubtedly colored our impression of the Hotel Lumberjack. Nevertheless, I think it is fair to say that the rooms were not particularly clean, and were too small. The parking was awkward, and the breakfast choices were quite limited. The staff were ok.
