"Big Sur Lodge is truly Nature’s Paradise, surrounded by giant sequoia trees, birds, & the beautiful natural sun.
A place to do some serious digital-detoxing, it was difficult first day due to NO WiFi & NO TV including No clocks. But once you go outside and explore the wonderful nature around, I truly appreciated and loved our time, and actually talking amongst family.
Our cabin was comfortable & clean, only thing I didn’t like is we had no screens on windows (only the bathroom), and it was hot, needed some fresh air, mosquitoes and bugs definitely entered, and we got bit by mosquitoes.
Also, one other downfall was the check-in process, was a 30 minute long wait.
Believe me- this place is worth adventuring & E-detoxing for better peace of mind and reset."
"The staff was very helpful accommodating my dog and brother on the ground floor (they don't do stairs). The location is very good for sightseeing at Hearst Castle, the Elephant Seal habitat, Piedras Blancas lighthouse and the southern end of the Big Sur coastline.
It's an easy drive up Highway One to San Dollar Beach and Los Padres Forest trails to the North. To the south it's a short drive to Cambria and Moonstone Beach. Be sure to walk the coastal trail in Fiscarelli Reserve.
I like staying in San Simeon because of the beauty of the coast, catching sunsets and the chance to see the descendants of Hearst's zebras grazing at dusk near San Simeon State park."
"This was our 2nd stay here. The property is beautiful and clean. We enjoyed dining in the restaurant as well. The views from the room couldn't be better."
"Roxy at the front desk was very friendly, welcoming, & professional- loved her kind spirit and reassuring us how we are in a safe area. Yummy homemade chocolate chip cookies given at ck-in. The room she got us was perfect as I am handicap with walking disability. Clear ocean view, parked next to room on 1st floor. Roxy was right the cold wind died out by close to sunset which was perfect for the fire pits to roast marshmallows. And Perfect on beach location, with many activities. Our room was clean and spacious. Price was very reasonable for location. We are definitely returning. Loved listening to the ocean waves all night long."
"I’ve stayed in their older rooms and the newer upgraded rooms both clean and as
Far as older hotels go for while staying out of town for work , I’d compare the beds to a holiday inns .and Thad’s what I would compare the upgrade rooms too up to par with a holiday inns or hamton inn"
"We have stayed at the Silver Surf multiple times a year for the last 27 years. We have always loved it and our family has countless core memories there. It has always been more than just a hotel for us. This stay changed that completely and none of our family will be back. The staff was incredibly rude at check-in, there were very few pool towels available, the vending machines did not work, and we were told we were not welcome back upon check out. We are not the type to leave negative reviews, but this trip left us no choice. We are sad to say that even if we were welcome back, we will no longer be creating memories at the Silver Surf. It is my hope that management understands that the lack of customer service and kindness in general just lost the establishment very loyal customers. Do better."
"The room was ready earlier than I expected, which was very nice. The warm pool was a hit with the kids, and the room was extremely spacious and clean. Our stay was very comfortable and convenient. The morning coffee and breakfast samplings were perfect. But the staff is what set everything apart from all other stays we’ve had! They were the best!!"
