Hotel was very central. In the heart of Old San Juan. Can easily walk to restaurants, bars. el Castillo de San Felipe. Parking garage was 5 mins walking & they validate your ticket. Felt safe. The rooftop has bathtubs & showers with an amazing view of the city & ocean. Drinks were included including alcoholic beverages, beer, water, coffee, tea, etc. The staff was amazing & super friendly. Both day & night. The bar stays open 24/7. To get inside the hotel you need a code. Very safe. No elevator but only 4 floors. The building is 200 years old so it’s very vintage & not remodeled. Bathrooms are small but have hot/ cold water. The pillows could be upgraded.

First off free bar, that’s open all night long (Not that I am an all night drinker, but if I was!) the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Parking is kinda of a struggle but you will get it. Over all wicked cool place. Especially for a 200 year old building…..

I would absolutely stay here again. The location in Old San Juan is perfect to see the area with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. The staff is over the top welcoming and could not be nicer. The bar area with free coffee, mimosas, beer, wine and a few cocktails was an unexpected surprise and was a great place to start or end the day chatting with other guests and learning about Puerto Rico from the awesome staff. The rooms are small and not fancy, but all we needed and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The moment we walked in staff welcomed us, offered us a drink from the open bar. Went over the amenities. Rooms were clean. We really liked the bonus feature of this boutique hotel where they offer complimentary drinks, coffee. Great stay!

This property is very old, but historic so you have to understand that it is not a luxury accommodation. There is no elevator so be prepared to walk a lot of stairs if you are staying on a high floor. Rooms are small as well. Great staff and the complimentary drinks were a big plus. The location in Old San Juan is fantastic.

Staff and accessibility To historic sites, restaurants, and shopping were the strong points. Jerardo Greeted us in lobby with a tropical cocktail while we checked in. There is a complementary bar in lobby with beer, wine, cocktails, and most importantly, bottled water. This is an old building in old San Juan and plumbing was not great (ie-Recommended no toilet paper to be flushed) And took forever for hot water to become available. Also great rooftop views of Harbor and local town. Needs a good 15 to 20 minute walk to get to the nearest beach. Conveniently there is a bodega one minute away for convenience needs Like aloe vera for your sunburn that you’ll get if you don’t get sunscreen.

Safety of room was a BIG question. Only a pop lock to lock the door from the outside and a chain to secure on the inside. Inadequate to say the least. The room was not clean. Shower curtain dirty and hung onto bottom of dirty shower. Room floors dirty with hair on them. Bedding was just ok. The reception area and staff were friendly and very nice and accommodating. We arrived early and stayed in the reception area for awhile. We will never stay again or recommend this hotel to anyone. Free bar drinks doesn't make up for the lack of cleanliness. The plus side was that the location was convenient for touring the El Colonial old town area.

We stayed at El Colonial for 3 nights...our stay was wonderful. The staff is so nice and they make you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. The available bar for anything from water to wine is such a plus...they even offered cold hand towels after our hot days. The rooftop is quite nice and a wonderful place to have a cold drink and take in a beautiful view. The location can't be beat and even though there is no elevator, the staff takes up your luggage so you just have to get yourself back and forth. Would definitely stay there again.

First night we gave the front desk the credit card for the security deposit, they never give it back, after we told them once we found out we didn’t got the card back they pull security camaras and everything trying to convince us that they give it back to us, but it was unclear the image and what the guy actually gave to my husband was the room key, we dont know what actually happened with the card but it was never returned to us. We just cancel the card and requested a new one but it was an unpleasant experience since they make us feel like we were laying when they told us with the image on the camera that they guy was giving my husband the credit card and he wasn’t, it was the room key.

Hotel is situated close to everything in Old San Juan. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. There's a open bar with limited options for guests, a nice bonus. Its a quaint old building, but nicely kept. The room was small, clean, comfortable bed, not spectacular by any means but we didn't spend much time in the room anyway. The biggest issue was hot water or lack therof. It could be hot for 30 seconds then cold, you never knew what to expect when in the shower.
