Do you want a holiday filled with stunning natural beauty and fun for the whole family? Then you need a holiday to Samso, the heart of Denmark.

Samso is a kind of mini-Denmark with all the best of Danish nature all in one place: Beautiful beaches, impressive forests, green hills and vast moors. Get on your bike and enjoy the beautiful landscape on the roads connecting the 22 quaint villages situated on the island, which feature art galleries and exciting activities.

People have lived on Samso since the Stone Age and today there is a population of fewer than 4,000 people, which means plenty of space and a culture where everyone helps each other. Some of the oldest relics you can experience on Samso are the many burial mounds from the Bronze Age, and the holy spring of Ilse Made Kilde, which arises from a hollowed tree trunk.

The largest village on the island of Samso is Tranebjerg, which houses, among other things, the Samso Eco Museum, which shows you the history of Samso through interesting exhibits. Continue your sightseeing with a tour of the village church, then head a few miles south to the Samso Falcon Centre, where majestic eagles and falcons whiz through the air in great performances. And your holiday to Samso would not be complete without a fun day at the world's largest maze, the Samso Labyrinth, on the northern part of the island.

If you go on holiday to Samso in the summer, don’t miss out on a swim in the sea. The Samso coastline is surrounded by sandy beaches almost all the way around. You will find the most popular and best beaches around Ballen Harbour, where you also have great restaurants and ice cream parlours within walking distance.

The best time to have a holiday in Samso is in the last half of July, when you can experience the Samso Festival, also known as Denmark's friendliest festival. The festival runs over three full-packed days filled with joyful people, stand-up comedy and Danish music, which you can enjoy in beautiful surroundings.

Samso is connected to the mainland via two ferries: Hou Havn (Jutland)–Saelvig (Samso) and Kalundborg (Zealand)–Ballen (Samso). Hou Havn is located 27 miles south of Aarhus. Bus 103 takes you directly from Aarhus to Hou Havn a few times a day, but most connections require you to take bus 100 from Aarhus, then change to bus 103 in Odder. During the summer months. you can also go by the Samso–Aarhus Express. Aarhus Harbour is located 26 miles south-west of Aarhus Airport, while Kalundborg Harbour is located 69 miles west of Copenhagen Airport. Hourly regional trains connect Kalundborg with Copenhagen.

Samso is the ideal holiday for you if you want to completely unwind and enjoy some authentic Danish island conviviality amongst beautiful surroundings.
