TownePlace Suites by Marriott Outer Banks Kill Devil Hills
4/10 Poor
"The location of this hotel is truly its biggest strength. About a block from the beach, with easy parking and one of the best hidden features they barely advertise: a dedicated pedestrian crossing and Marriott-managed boardwalk directly to the beach. This honestly made the stay special because the surrounding area is filled with private beach homes, and we initially worried about trespassing until we asked how beach access worked. Once discovered, it felt safe, convenient, and almost exclusive.
The pool was also very nice, and overall the property has great potential because the location is excellent.
Unfortunately, housekeeping and cleanliness were major issues. Our room had sand everywhere upon arrival and clearly had not been vacuumed properly. Staff responded quickly, but after vacuuming, the room somehow became worse. When we asked again for help, the front desk handed us a broom. By the next morning, sand had spread into the sheets, couch, and chairs. I understand beach properties deal with sand constantly, but properly preparing rooms before check-in should be critical.
We also noticed rust and grime in the closet organizers, corrosion on some hardware, and even dead roaches near the entrance steps.
Breakfast was very limited for vegetarians, and ending breakfast at 9:30 AM even on Sunday felt too early. Coffee was available, but no creamer or half-and-half. No restaurant on-site either.
Overall felt like amazing location advantages but operational frustrations."
"Fantastic hotel with great access to clean beach, with showers to rinse off sand and a great pool with sunbathing area.
Rooms were spacious and clean.
Staff was very polite and friendly.
Ample free self parking and tasty breakfast.
Best part is its location - take right highway for dunes park, Kills Devil, Kitty Hawk, Wright Brothers Museum, great restaurants. Take left highway for dolphin tours, aquarium, light houses, Trampoline Park, Mall.
You can walk to the beach from the hotel parking. Plus this hotel has showers outside to wash off the sand before going to pool or to your rooms. Hotels in Virginia Beach should learn from this one.
We had street facing rooms which were great.
What we paid felt reasonable compared to other options.
The only improvement I would recommend is bigger breakfast room. It’s very cramped and folks with family face a challenge finding a place to sit.
Overall, I would rate this one as 10/10"
"It was a last minute impromptu trip! The staff was super friendly and helpful! The cottage was clean, A/C worked wonderfully!!! Kitchenette was great!
Will be coming back again throughout the year!
Thank you so much for hosting us and being such great hosts and humans! Have a safe and happy summer! Hope to see yall again!
Much love"
"We enjoyed our stay. Have not been back to the area in over 12 years. I came to visit family that was visiting in the area. We had the perfect room, for what we needed. Will definitely stay again."
