"The majority of the staff were delightful. The rooms were clean. Clothing washer and dryers were available at a cost of $8 usd per load. The snorkeling on the resort beach was just as good as the national park beaches.
Most of the food at the non-reservation restaurants on site were okay, nothing I will reflect on, but the wings were pretty good.
The hotel only gave two nesspresso coffee pods at the start of our 7 night stay. We had to purchase the rest. Maybe that is normal in Bonaire, I am not sure. I would give the room mattress zero stars, it is a 3 inch pad and is awful.
The pool, lazy river, and beach chair/shade availability was great."
Van der Valk Plaza Beach & Dive Resort Bonaire - All Inclusive
10/10 Excellent
"The property has changed dramatically since we first started going there in the 1990s. Yes there is some construction going on but it’s well cordoned off so that it doesn’t affect the restaurant the pool area or the beach. There’s a big solar panel project that’s been ongoing now but it’s cleanly run and I think will be a good benefit for them. The oceanfront deluxe and grand suite rooms have been updated over the years but I suspect they will undergo a complete overhaul and that will be one of the last things to be done as those areas are adjacent to of course the pool and the beach. The restaurant and the buffet style service is truly outstanding. They have an army of service staff. The food is fresh and very good I guess my only complaint would be it’s somewhat repetitive and yet truly no reason to go off resort to eat. The reef is in very good shape, better than it has been in the last few years not as good as it was 30 years ago which is to be expected. There’s a lot of new growth of corals and sponges. The snorkeling is easily accessible from the beach and very well protected from a lot of bad wave action and current despite the fact that the Easter leaves have been blowing fairly hard for the past several weeks to a month. Room service was prompt and thorough. We will continue to go back and always tell our friends about it."
"We had a wonderful stay at Harbour Village and would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Bonaire. The property itself is beautiful, with a peaceful atmosphere, gorgeous outdoor spaces, and some of the best snorkeling we experienced on the island right off the private beach. Having direct beach access made it so easy to spend our days in and out of the water, and the calm, clear conditions were perfect for snorkeling.
Our room was also incredibly spacious and worked perfectly for what we needed throughout the trip. The staff were consistently friendly, welcoming, and accommodating, which really added to the overall experience.
The only feedback we had was that the service at the bar/restaurant was a bit slow and inconsistent during the first couple days of our stay. That said, it noticeably improved as the trip went on, and we had a much better experience toward the end of our visit.
Overall, Harbour Village was a fantastic place to stay and a wonderful home base for exploring Bonaire!"
"-1 restaurant and 1 buffet on location. 2 bars. Breakfast is served buffet style every morning. We were all-inclusive, so our meals were never charged, but you still signed the receipt so I was aware of costs. Most every meal will run you about $30 for food and beverage a person.
It is an easy 10-minute walk from the resort to downtown Kralendijk for fun souvineer shopping and wonderful gelato at Gios. Well worth the walk.
The property has 2 huge pools. 2 hot tubs outside the studio rooms.
Our studio room #714 was equipped nicely with 2 queen beds, a tiny shower bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen including stocked cabinets for 4 people, and including a roll of paper towels and a full size coffeemaker with coffee packets. The ac is a min split unit that doesn't always cool at a comfortable low, but that may be just that room. I tried lowering the temperature but just managed to have the room more damp. But there is lots of closet and dresser space.
The resort is geared toward scuba divers and their daily outings, therefore, it is not a 5-star resort for pampering. We are snorkelers and had the best swims along the Calabas Reef literally off the property beach.
We rented a car for the day from Hertz at the resort for less than$100 fully insured. We easily drove both the north and south loops of the island. The salt pier with its salt ponds and the donkey sanctuary are worth the side trip to see along with the slave huts and beautiful waters on both sides of the island."
"Stay was good and convenient location but the beds need some work. Instead of two twin beds just use one queen. Then the chargers, we needed to buy adapters because they are different than America. And the lights sometimes did not work in bathroom. Besides that everything was nice."
