This was a guesthouse where we were greeted by the owner as we drove up. She showed us our room, which was clean and comfortable. She also made wonderful pancakes for breakfast for everyone, it felt like a family meal. I would recommend to anyone wanting something other than the sterile hotel room experience.
The moment I walked in I felt I was at home. However, what made the experience is the host in the morning. Over coffee, I had a good conversation with the proprietor and he absolutely set my day off on the right foot. He was telling all about his personal experiences with the Eyjafjallajökull volcano and showed me a book and some personal photos. I also was able to ask some questions about like in general in the Skógafoss area. He also has the most friendly border collie a person could ever know. I delayed leaving in the morning because I so enjoyed the company plus the information.
Please, if you are driving the south coast or the ring road, stop here for great conversation, and a homey feel. I have already decided that when I return to Iceland, I will make a point to stay here again. My favorite guest house I stayed in during my time in Iceland.
Also, checking in is easy-you can come in at any time and they are ready. The breakfast with homemade pancakes was great! At least the night I was there, the guests were quiet but friendly in the morning. There are games and books available as well, and great views of the ocean and fields and mountains and Vestmannaeyjar island. And truly local advice. Thank you for the wonderful experience!!!!!
Belli i bagni.
The owners of the guesthouse we're exceedingly friendly and cordial. However, the first night a couple were cooking some strange lamb stew that made the downstairs smelly. I think the other guests could have refrained from frying weird food.
We loved our stay here and were in awe of the views! The host was lovely and helpful and made us a delicious pancake breakfast. We hope to come back some day!
Nice cozy little place in beautiful settings with a very kind and service minded host. Simple but nice breakfast and easy check in. I could stay there again!
The location near Vik and the attractions are great. The host was very friendly. It had a welcoming farm feel to the stay. At the time we booked it was about the same price range as other self-contained cottages that we enjoyed a lot more, but I see the price has dropped a lot since.
There were 7 rooms that shared 2 bathrooms and a kitchen. It meant when arriving waiting for two or three other guests to finish making their dinners first before being able to use the kitchen. In the morning, sharing of the 2 bathrooms turned into a very patient waiting game. Another guest stayed in the bathroom for an hour, despite knocking on the door to encourage them to be considerate to other guests.
The rooms did seem well sound insolated so we were not bothered by noises from other guests (or they were also just quiet.)
The Raudafell 1 was our first night stay in Iceland. It is centrally located to view the area waterfalls n iconic DC-3 on the beach. Carla made us feel at home by preparing pancakes (breakfast) for the folks staying at the Guesthouse. We also learned about some history of Iceland before she had to makeready for the new arrivals. Great stay!
There’s no freezer so if you have any frozen food then good luck with that. There’s only 2 bathrooms for 8 rooms and people are constantly trying to open the door without knocking. Also there’s no towel so expect to be very wet after shower if you did not bring your own. There is a door in the shower place that’s connected to outside and there’s a storm the night we stayed and the wind kept howling into the shower area and it was freezing...the shower hose is auto stop every like 10 seconds so I have to keep pressing on the knob while trying to shower....very inconvenient....and the room is the smallest I’ve ever stayed out of the whole 11 days in Iceland
