Ghaz in POA
Excellent budget hotel in centre Porto Algre. Excellent staff, I arrived 9.30 am and the manager who spoke English found me a room immediately. Dangerous area after dark but you simply take a taxi. Umbrellas provided at front food for guests when it rained

Adequate No Frills Downtown Hotel
Advertises an indoor pool which is actually closed for renovation. Not worth more than any other downtown hotel.

OK If You Need To Stay Downtown
Located in a dirty, crowded downtown area, this hotel advertises a swimming pool but does advertise that the pool is closed during renovations. I asked the manager if the customers shouldn't know about this, and he shrugged his shoulders. Otherwise, it is a place to stay for the night if for some reason you want or need to stay in this area, but is not worth more than any of the other local run down fare.

Needs refurbishment
The staff was very friendly and overall the hotel was ok. Though my room would need some renovation. There was mold in the shower, and the room had a very old smell and feel - especially the bathroom.

Not like the picture
Few options in the room service, and so expensive. It´s a old hotel, but changed the front so that could appear new and modern in the picture. I think the price could be lower. I am sorry for my english, however I am brazilian trying send information in english language.

nice place
It was such a nice place to stay, they were very kind and warm, and the locations is in the old downtown but it couldn't be a matter because there are many convenient places nearby the hotel.

The experience was generally good, but the listing on the hotels.com site is VERY inaccurate. The hotel has two towers. We were in the older tower. I am not sure if the other tower has the advertised amenities but, if so, there was no material in the room to direct guests to them, and no effort was made by staff to advise us. So, we found no indoor pool, no sauna, no restaurant (only a 15th floor room in which breakfast is served and 24-hour room service), no "laptop-compatible safe (in fact, no safe at all!), and no desk (only a small round table). Also, our room did not have air conditioning. The site says "the 148 air-conditioned rooms ..." which seems to imply that all the rooms are air-conditioned. Finally, the wireless internet was pretty slow, and went down once for several hours. So, while the hotel is quite nice and the service was generally good, I would suggest asking some questions when making the reservation. It isn't much cheaper than other hotels that have all of those amenities and more. It is really well located. While the area around the hotel is a bit sketchy, it's really a short walk to all kinds of things. I don't regret staying there at all ... just wish there had been a bit more "truth in advertising" up front.

Learning the hard way!
I had to rent a car for this visit. Well, after a full day of meetings, getting to the hotel was nearly impossible. After two hours of trying I just asked a cab to take me there. Even the cab was not happy to take me there. Can you believe it? Really bad location in old town of Porto Alegre. The lobby was somewhat impressive, nicely decorated and clean. But when I got to my floor and my room it felt like I went from a high star rated hotel to a very low class hotel. Old carpet, smelly, old room decoration. A flat panel tv was the only new thing there. My window was facing a really bad looking apartment building. I just did not feel safe there. Breakfast was good. Very good actually. Porto Alegre is so beatiful and just as common as in many countries, the old part of down town is just not a place to be for a foreigner. There must be better places to stay. I will stay somewhere else next time.
