We're sorry you apparently had such a bad experience here. Your review of 2 out of 5 is unusually low for us. We expect 4 or 5. We had just put in a new refrigerator, so possibly it wasn't yet operating properly. The rain always makes stays at rural feeling properties seem damp and muddy, though we know the room was dry and warm, the temperature of which, you could control yourselves. Possibly the unusually well stocked bathroom, unlike any hotels, may have seemed too personal, or busy. Cerainly the 2 acre exterior with hundreds of statues and decorations is unusual and may have seemed more than you'd bargained for. We believe that we are much quieter than any hotel, and far and away more private, with only one other apartment on the property. Even the crowing chickens are over 100 yards away. We do try to turn off all lights at night to produce a feeling of natural night calm, but that is sometimes frightening to some guests, as many are accustomed to bright light all night in hotel settings. We may have felt too far from the center of downtown Portland, though its only a 20 minute drive away. With winter still keeping our forest and gardens asleep, it may have felt desolate, but that is the nature of Oregon in the winter. All sheets are hand ironed, and everything is kept in the cleanest state possible. Our breakfasts are limited by city regulations to only cold choices, so the BnB status is a bit less than we would like ourselves. You may find a conventional hotel is more to your liking in the future. We wish you had let us know of any problems or inadequacies during your stay.

So sorry the many amenities we have provided created such personal discomfort. Our stocking of any potential bathroom, health, or emergency needs, for free, is usually met with delight, as no other hotels offer such amenities without requesting them from a concierge at a 4 star hotel, and at much added cost. Some guests have used over a dozen products for their needs, and while medical products are not typically found in hotels, as former healthcare providers, we wanted to offer as many potential healthcare and consumer protection devices as any guest might desire. The entire property, an active cut flower farm, as well as a 2 room B&B, does also have many art works and unusual figures and statues, and many farm projects. We are also surrounded by a forest and nature park, all of which, too, may feel busy for some who's tastes are more minimal, or were expecting a plain, sanitary hotel devoid of creative flourish's. For most visitors, the attempt at making the bathroom as home like in it's offerings, and utilitarian in it's needs, is usually a plus. Your previous experiences at motels, which offer no more than a bar of soap may have reduced your expectations, and the busy art work found throughout the property and in the bathroom is not always to everyone's tastes. Possibly the period Charlie Chaplin poster, looking down upon you as you are enthroned on the toilet, is too much of an intrusion. However, the bathroom is kept immaculately clean and we only use natural, sustainable products when possible for cleaning, and for our guests use. Multiple plants in every room are intended on helping to clean, the air, as various studies have shown, but can also add to the feeling of clutter.

We are sorry that the room was were not what you expected, as we are a higher end Airbnb style Inn, with a room in the main house and a detached apartment. With many decorations and activities available, inside and out, we can be either enjoyed as a unique and beautiful home for low art, or just too busy an experience. As a working farm, we also have many less than perfect surroundings and activities which make the experience here, either a bit too active, or a pleasure for those wanting a more down to Earth visit. However, you did expect a more hotel type residence, but we can't offer such accommodations. Too bad you didn't have more time to see the property with our waterfalls, forest, wildlife, chickens, and self picked vegetables and fruits. Regrettably, some guests don't see all of our posted information about our property and rooms, to realize we are not a hotel, but are a private home with extended uses and opportunities, not recognized by guests who are here merely to sleep.

Really nice couple enjoying a night away from the kids. Clean, quiet guests that we would love to see again.
