Had a nice warm welcome followed by a clean, fresh and spacious double-bed room - six comfy nights sleep-lovely mattress support. Buffet breakfast was just the ticket after a quick early morning work out in their 2nd floor gym (Buffet choice: Drinks, Fruits, fried full breakfasts, cold meats, cheese & soft fresh bread, etc). A tasteful blend of contemporary and traditional buildings, with our superior block room worth the extra money - larger and with a much better quality lounging area outside the patio doors. There have been several extensions to this classic hotel built on the cliffside overlooking Funchal harbour.All tastefully done and very classy. Facilities were great with little touches like sweets on the pillow. Room had clear damage/marks on the walls not repaired and the service was mostly average with one breakfast at the buffet were we didn’t get seen to at all and had find servers ourselves. Hotel facilities and options were great.

The staff are courteous and friendly and helpful. If they were unable to help directly they could always advise where you might get the help you needed. We enjoyed our stay but did find a big disadvantage that as it was 3-4 miles inland from the express way on very difficult roads you didn't want to go into the town after dark. The hotel is situated on a main road (no noise problems though) which gives great links to the main buses in to Funchal, including a courtesy bus from the hotel, and the open top tour buses. We had a fantastic time here. The room was big and comfortable and the resort was beautifully maintained, with lovely gardens. A great place to relax and unwind. Breakfast was excellent with a lot of variety, catering for a wide range of dietary requirements. The various restaurants offered decent food and a good option if not wanting to venture out in the evening. The staff were all fantastic throughout. I would definitely recommend this place and would happily stay there again.

Beautiful hotel centrally placed for Funchal. Excellant facilities and extremely friendly and helpful staff. The week was an absolute joy.

We have visited Madeira four times and while we have visited very good hotels before, this hotel edged it for us.

Don't go uptown to the tourist area where all the hotels are - concrete jungle! Old town is best for eateries and bars - especially the rum bar - hard to find but a wee gem. It is on the second section of the old street and has a balcony which overlooks the street - the guy there is fantastic looks like you are in his front room but it's an amazing place to sample rum - he has a massive choice.
