The property was very centrally located to quite a few points of interest, namely, Piran and Lucija. We had friends/family in both cities. Both walkable. Excellent choices of shopping, grocery, and restaurants.

The rooms are quite dusty, there are deposits of dust above the curtains. In terms of overall comfort, the hotel would need renovation. Especially the section with standard rooms. Pillows are like stone. I remember the times when the hotel was far better. The staff is nice, they do their best, but the decline in quality is obvious. Especially when it comes to category 4+. So, much better 3 star, than 4+.

Hotel needs reconstruction...
I like the place, I been there for many times... Anyhow, the Hotel needs reconstruction so badly. From the point of view of services, I remember the times, when Hotel was 5*, right now most services as well as equipment are on 3* level. Especially breakfast are really weak, cold scramble eggs and watery orange juice is too low standard for pretty high pricing out of the season. I assume, that manny of guests will return, because they are long time visitors as I'm. So they will return some how till day they not...

Pleasant stay, but...
Overall we had a pleasant stay, but a few things were disturbing. We booked a sea view room more than 8 months in advance, they allocated the worst possible room with very obstructed view. No beach towels, no kettle, very dated feel... Big positive is a free use of thermal pools, which we loved.

Food and service in restaurant great.
This hotel is very well located, the food and service in the restaurant was excellent. The service on reception let me down a little as our stay started by having to argue to acquire parking that we had understood was part of the booking. This is a basic infrastructure issue that the hotel needs to resolve. The bed for our child was in three levels, so unsatisfactory. It only works for very young children. Given the Covid-19 situation, the government subsidizing these hotels, I expected far more in service.

Nice hotel, some parts feel a little dated. Area is nice, with plenty of places to drink - good transport links to piran.

A real find !
The Grand is on the waterfront of a slightly "seaside" resort. We chose it for its nearness to historic and utterly magical Piran - a very easy bus journey from the stop outside the hotel. Very useful to have valet parking. Rooms were large, beautifully presented and excellent value for money. Dinner and breakfast buffets were amazing and delicious. Friendly, professional staff.

Ok, but used to be better
Expensive recliners and umbrellas on the beach (they used to be included in the price) - no cheaper than in Cannes, which Portorož definitely isn’t. Welness center closed when we were there.

Expected more from a 5-star hotel
If this was a 3 or 4 star hotel I would give them a better overall rating, but from a 5-star I expected much more. The location is great. You have to walk about 200 m to their Meduza beach but that's OK. The rooms are small, but very clean. The safe isn't big enough to fit an iPad. Our room was located in older part of the hotel so we had limited TV selection (I probably wouldn't care if it wasn't pointed out by the hotel;). We did have 2 issues with the room. They had to fix the doors as there was a 1cm gap on top so we heard everything from the corridor during night (fixed the next day). The 2nd issue was the AC. First problem is that you can't turn it off. That led to the other issue. When the AC turnes on it was very loud. That woke me up 3 times. The food is very average and the selection was quite limited. The service from the reception staff was great. Most of the other staff was also great. Some of the waiters were not what we would expecte, but luckily the one we had for most of the time was very good. My wife used their beauty services and wasn't too happy with them as well (very average). The main issue I had is that there isn't any table where you could sit down and have a breath of fresh air (or a cigarette). There is a hotel bar just outside, but you are not allowed to sit down without ordering something!? That was pointed out to us by waiter mr. Dalibor (not in a nice manner). That alone took one or two points from my overall rating.

We were really looking forward to last night of holidays in a 5 star hotel. I have no idea why 5 stars as overall nothing like the hotels we had been staying in for the previous week - a few of which were only 4 star! Reception staff were efficient, porter very friendly and helpful. In the bar and breakfast restaurant it was difficult to obtain service and once we had ordered a long wait. The main disappointment is that the hotel is connected to 3 other Hotels and they share spa and pool facilities. Consequently instead of the luxurious spa we were expecting it was a bit more like the public baths. The decor was old fashioned and restaurant set out with masses of chairs in rows like the huge communist hotels pre the fall of the Berlin wall. Breakfast was plentiful but both my husband and I came back with empty plates! Moreover this hotel was double what we had paid for any other in the previous week.

The hotel is older, but maintained. They have free internet in the room and free parking. The hotel has a private beach area and cards supplied by the hotel can be utilized for towels, chairs etc. on the beach.The staff is helpful explaining nearby sights such as Piran an interesting town on the water and easy to reach by bus (10 mins) away.The hotel has a very large breakfast that has a variety of items, as well as, a chef who will cook egg items to your taste. The breakfast staff is very attentive. There is a large spa and indoor pool area that has multiple pools and a water fall.The only items we wouldd like is a coffee pot in the room and an ice bucket. The bar however will gladly supply the ice and a bucket.This hotel like others in Solvenia does not supply hair conditioner or wash cloths.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Portoroz for 6 nights. The front desk staff is very friendly, the rooms are clean and the food is fine. Breakfast has wide selection of items, including rolled oats and soymilk. The spa section is great as well.

Das Hotel befindet sich in erster Linie im Zentrum der Stadt Portoroz mit einem ausgezeichneten Spa. Parkplatz 12 Euro pro Tag. Gut ausgestatteter Strand, bequemer Zugang zum Meer. Das Personal an der Rezeption ist nicht besonderes gut vorbereitet, weshalb eine Reihe von Missverständnissen entstanden wäre. Das Personal des Hotels spricht überwiegend Englisch, nur ein par können Deutsch sprechen.
