Pichilingue Beach

Pichilingue Beach
Enjoy the gorgeous scenery, thrilling watersports, diverse marine life and seafood specialties at this picturesque beach facing the Sea of Cortez.

Pichilingue Beach is a family-friendly beach with soft, white sand lapped by the turquoise waters of the Sea of Cortez. Spend the day at this beautiful spot to unwind and to take part in watersports.

Go for a stroll along the shoreline before heading into the water. Put on a snorkel and mask and explore the underwater world. The Sea of Cortez is so rich with marine life that the late French explorer and scientist Jacques Cousteau once called it the world's aquarium. It supports approximately 900 species of fish and thousands of marine invertebrate species.

Enjoy the thrill and excitement of such watersports as kayaking and Jet Skiing. Equipment can be rented on the beach.

Dry off on the warm sand under the shade of one of the palapas. These shelters with thatched roofs are free to use but on busy days during the summer they get occupied quickly. If you are not planning on arriving early it will be a good idea to bring your own umbrella for shade.

Treat yourself to a meal at an oceanfront restaurant and order a bowl of chocolate clams, known in Spanish as almejas chocolatas. This is a local specialty that is also referred to as Baja's seafood candy. The nickname comes from the color of the shells.

Note that there are no public toilets on the beach although the restaurants make theirs available to customers. They also have sun loungers and palapas that are free to use while you are eating and drinking.

Find Pichilingue Beach by Pichilingue’s ferry terminal approximately 13 miles (21 kilometers) north of La Paz. Drive and use the free parking lot. Alternatively, travel by bus from the tourist terminal in the city. It also stops at several other beaches, including Balandra Beach and Tesoro Beach. Buses to and from the city run several times a day.
