"I became very aware of my American biases based on my first impression. But I quickly found out what a beautiful authentically Japanese experience this was. It’s hard to get there, but if you find the right bus line, you can get from Fukuyama station all the way up to the national park. The property is older and a bit dated, but it just feels historical to me."

"I had a wonderful 3 nights stay at the Green Hill Hotel. The staff was very helpful and welcoming and the room absolutely spotless. I was in Onomichi for the Shimanami Kaido experience plus a day of sightseeing and I thought the hotel was perfectly located for both of those. It is also right in front of the train station, quite practical. The availability of the laundry in the hotel was really a plus. Will definitely return to the Onomichi area and at this hotel. I highly recommend."

"This was the middle hotel on our 75 km Shimanami bike ride and we arrived very hot and tired. The room was not ready for us, but the staff happily took our bags so we could enjoy the town while the room was being prepared. Once we arrived in it, the room was a beautiful newly constructed all wood artsy dream place. Comfortable bed, beautiful, bathing facilities, and a woodfired restaurant downstairs that gave us an amazing meal, coincidentally with several members of the friendly staff whose company we really enjoyed. The hotel is very conveniently located in the middle of a beautiful island town with simple access to other restaurants, museums, and temples, shopping and a wonderful sunset beach Next time we do this ride, there is no doubt we will be staying here"

"An absolute gem. We loved the whole experience. Great little bar area where you can eat your own food & drink, & play cards at night We had the room on the first floor. Amazing views over the pagoda, town & bridge in the distance. Staff were fantastic- really helpful. We cooked a simple spaghetti meal, but bought breakfast in the morning. Lovely little garden & patio. Showers were great & soap provided. Washing machine available. If you're travelling on the Shinkansen, just to note it arrives in Shin Onomishi. Get the bus, from stand no1 outside the station to Onomishi station & turn left out of the station 20min walk. If you're cycling prebook bikes from outside Onomishi Station. Downside of property - 350 steps uphill!! Our children had no problem. We took our time. It was worth the trip!"

STATION INN THE URASHIMA

STATION INN THE URASHIMA

10/10 Excellent
"This was my first capsule hotel stay, and STATION INN THE URASHIMA in Onomichi exceeded my expectations. The location is excellent, right next to JR Onomichi Station, close to the port terminal for island trips, with plenty of dining options nearby and a large Lawson within walking distance. The hotel is on the second floor, with both an escalator and lift, making access easy even with luggage. Facilities are very clean and well maintained. Showers are hot and tidy, and complimentary toiletries are provided, along with robes and slippers. The capsule itself is more spacious than expected, with a fan, lighting, and charging ports. There is a shared dining area with free tea and coffee, plus vending machines with drinks. Lockers are not large enough for even small suitcases, but luggage can be safely left near the capsule area. Do note that facilities are closed for cleaning between 10am–3pm, and there can be some noise at night depending on occupancy. Overall, a very positive first capsule hotel experience. Clean, comfortable, and a great base for exploring Onomichi and nearby islands."
