Oberstdorf lies at the foot of the Nebelhorn and is the third largest municipality in Bavaria. It is a great place to go, in the summer for walking with over 200 kilometres of hiking trails, and in winter for skiing with 128 kilometres of alpine pistes in five different skiing areas. The municipality of Oberstdorf consists of the main town with its large pedestrian precinct and shops of all kinds, plus a lot of sleepy little villages. In the village of Rubi towards the north you will find homely restaurants where you can really spend time enjoying the sunshine during your trip to Oberstdorf. Kornau, at an altitude of 915 metres, is very attractive with unusually ornate façades on the houses. In the centre of Schöllang is the parish church with its onion dome. The village has spa gardens for rest and relaxation.
You can easily go on a short trip to Oberstdorf using any means of transport. This spa, which has such a healthy climate, is right on Highway 19 and is easy for motorists to get to. Go to the top of the Oberstdorfers' local mountain on the Nebelhornbahn railway. From here you have a view of more than 400 peaks. The Nebelhornbahn is the start point for reaching a first class hiking, touring and climbing area. You'll find walking paths of all levels of difficulty on the Nebelhorn. There are even accessible routes for people with disabilities. Or use the Fellhornbahn railway to get to the Two-Country Hiking Area between Fellhorn and Kanzelwand. This family-friendly hiking area is known especially for its gorgeous sea of Alpine flowers.
You can reach the Söllereck family-friendly area on the Söllereckbahn railway. It has the "German Service Quality" seal of approval. This region is especially good for lengthy family walks. Many of the paths are suitable for prams. At the top station of the Söllereckbahn you'll find a forest ropes course, the highest altitude one in Germany, which will challenge adventurers young and old alike.
On your trip to Oberstdorf don't miss visiting the Schattenberg Ski Jump, one of the most beautiful and modern ski jumping hills in the world. From the top of the ski jump you have an impressive view of the mountains around Oberstdorf. There is a lift so you'll find it no effort to get there. The Skywalk Allgäu high ropes course is just the place for thrill seekers. You can demonstrate your climbing skills at heights of up to 30 metres in between the ski jumps.
