While the rooms are small and very basic, the grounds and the pool were fantastic. The pool staff were also superb, with excellent service.

We had the most amazing stay at this beautiful hotel. Everything was amazing. Unfortunately, on the last day, our son clipped his toe in the poo. He’s a soccer player and so now he’s quite inconveniencedl. The same thing happened to two other kids. We’d like to return to this property and hope this issue will have been fixed because aside from that everything was incredible.

This lovely building and its grounds are a former convent and this shows in its appearance. However, a convention in the hotel resulted in a LOT of noise and activity that interfered with our stay. The old chapel—near the main lobby and adjacent to the pool—served as the primary venue for the convention. Amplified voices rang out across these open-air areas all day long. At night there was a reception in the courtyard just outside of our windows with live music, drinking, and lots of loud voices until past 11:00 pm. The next day the convention was also in the other courtyard nearby with yet more amplified voices. The hotel needs to choose either to cater to its individual clients (who pay $$$$) or to conventions. Doing both is impossible. As someone who has stayed at multiple Oaxaca hotels, I feel that here we paid far too much for what we received. We splurged for the Gran Clase Dos Camas as part of a big birthday celebration. While our room was nice, it was not at all like pictures in terms of size, the sofa, or the bathroom, which was tiny and in dire need of renovation (this despite that the concierge said we’d been upgraded to a better room). Finally, the restaurant charges exorbitant prices. One morning we ate breakfast there (croissants, yogurt, and coffee) for $42. We ate huge breakfasts at nice places nearby for a small fraction of that cost. It’s a lovely hotel and its gigantic staff is always friendly. But it needs to focus on client comfort at a fair price.

In addition to being a facility with history, a beautiful setting; It is peaceful, staff are generous in attending you at breakfast, pool area and in the evening for a night cap! Quinta Real Oaxaca is an amazing property which transports you to a different era- it started its life as a monastery in the 16th century. The garden are incredible and beautifully kept. The room was beautiful - with furniture matching the Spanish colonial style of the hotel; two blocks from Santo Domingo church and monastery so convenient to sights but inside an oasis of calmness. I can’t say enough good things about this property; the weekend brunch was excellent and my only comment for improvement would be the dinner options which were good but the quality could be elevated. (There were some inconsistencies- some dishes were very good, some less so); overall I highly recommend this hotel.

We had an amazing stay here. The property is luxurious, the staff are so accommodating and kind. We stayed in a room with two double beds which had super high ceilings, a balcony and really nice washroom. It also had a couch and mini fridge, dresser and tv which wasn’t shown in the photos that I really appreciated. I wish we could have stayed longer, it was amazing! Only downside was the food which was pretty bland, presumably catering to older tourists.

The Oaxaca Quinta Real is a grand old dame of a hotel, fundamentally unchanged since the last time I was there more than 20 years ago, and that is the point. When a hotel is in a 16th century convent, you want excellent maintenance, not modernization, and the maintenance is excellent. The service is excellent and the hotel is worth spending some time in just hanging out and drinking up the setting, Oaxaca aside.

Staying at the QR is truly unique. Originally a cloister built in the 16th century. It is a beautiful structure. It is quite pricey but it it right in the centre of everything. Two blocks south of Cathedral Santo Domingo and three blocks from the Zocalo. It was nice for a short stay.

Truly, one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve ever been to and I travel a lot. Breathtakingly beautiful with an amazing staff and great food at their restaurant. The pool was absolutely lovely. I miss it already.

A gem in Oaxaca
We had a wonderful stay at Quinta Real Oaxaca - a former convent and jail, now a beautiful, high-end hotel. The garden spaces are quite lovely. The location proved perfect as well. The staff was very helpful.
